Default Expendables 2 - Review Thread

The Expendables 2 - Review Thread

I present to you the best action movie of the summer. This is what the first movie should have been but I'm guessing because of budget issues they weren't allowed to do as much. The action is epic from the opening scene it hits you and doesn't stop. The locations have gotten more exotic, the chemistry between the cast is really strong and it's a lot funnier too. This is the movie we should have gotten from the get go. A movie that makes fun of it's own genre but gets it enough to deliver what the audience wants.

Arnold/Bruce get a lot more screen-time but not as much as the regular cast. I really enjoyed the scene with Noris as well. The good news is all there cameos aren't wasted and I won't spoil those for you.

Sadly we get less of Jet Li.

The plot isn't really mind blowing but it's enough to keep you entertained the real meat of the film is all about the action and seeing these heroes come together... Hearing Bruce say "stop coming back and shoot something" or Arnold to Bruce "Yippie Kaye Mother*****" and so on and so forth really got some great laughs!

Van Damme was great as a villain but he really didn't get enough screen presence unless he was trying to steal more Plutonium or about to fight Stallone which was in one word "EPIC" the only gripe out that was it was too short.

In the end this is a fine action film that can actually live up to the stars from old and newly introduced. I hope in the sequel we can go even bigger and get even more screentime for returning players.

I wanna see Norris back in 3 simply because I'd like to see him have a fight with Steven Segall but Steven doesn't like these people so won't likely see segall but maybe Norris would have more to do in 3. I did hear that Cage would be in 3 and maybe Harrison Ford.

If you want a JCVD fix, check out Universal Soldier Regeneration. It came out on DVD a couple years back and if you enjoy action movies as much as me you'll see that it's awesome. The action is great and the fight scenes, of which there are many, are really solid. The JCVD/Lundgren is the best part of the movie.

Actually the whole movie is on youtube, you could watch it right now if you want.

Watched this last night and frankly have a lot of thoughts on this in comparison to other action movies. Unfortunately I'm on my phone for the next few days, it'll have to wait. I would probably give it around a C or C+ though.

Yes this movie was full of explosions, cheesy acting, one liners ,bad edits but I had alot of fun watching this, to be honest I was really surprised at how good van damme did,he needs to play a bad guy more, absolutely loved the fight between sly and van damme (you ready to man up). One thing I wished that they did was have willis beat the ***** out of someone while dropping f bombs like he does in die hard lol Other then that enjoyed the hell out of it pretty funny movie. The chuck norris cobra thing had the theater rolling

I gotta say, it gave me everything I wanted and more. Like everyone else said; it was cheesy as hell. But damn was it entertaining. I had more fun with this movie than I did with most of the summer releases, to be honest. It was just what I needed right now. Something to help get my mind off the drama of the world and just sit back, relax and have fun. I'd actually be up for an Expendables 3 if/when it's made.

I'll give my full review in the morning. But There is one thing i would have liked to had seen. I think Chuck needed more screen time. Because I thought he was one of the best parts of the movie.I think Chuck and Arnald more or less stole the movie from the rest.

I think the next Expendables should have Arnalds team have an adventure. Because would like to see him have a team in this movies concept.

Honestly, if Arnold even had his team shown, who would star in it as the team?

I think Sly already used up all the action stars in Hollywood, lol.

Saw it yesterday. Not to sound like a snob but I think the film is successful for what it's trying to be. Unfortunately, what it's trying to be just isn't my cup of tea. Much like the first film, the concept of all these stars together is cute for the first five minutes of the film but then I have to deal with what the film really is: A severely underwritten story lead by action stars who've never been known to be great actors (save Willis).

Sure, there's some nice action beats but it becomes very tedious after awhile because you just don't care about anything that's going on (Hell, I don't even know the names of any of the characters). Again, I'm not trying to degrade the film for what it's trying to be but - try as I might - it just doesn't work for me. However, I will say that Van Damn was a good - but criminally underused - villain and he should consider playing more of those types of roles.

Haven't seen it yet, but given my feelings towards the first movie it feels like I might have the same sentiments.

Stallone is once more an amiable host. He even pulls off heroics despite having an ill-advised ’stache laying over his mouth, which nowadays looks like a squished octopus.” [Joe Neumaier of the Daily News.]

I'll give my lone criticism;

It's not better than THE RAID.

Here's my one piece of advise:

Stop casting The Rock and Liam Neeson in everything.

If this film would have been released when I was 14 I would have had a wet dream and be queuing up for a midnight release......

I don't know why but at the beginning of the film I was laughing a bit but shaking my head at the cheesy one liners that were getting shouted out at each shot of a gun but then I thought to myself "this is ment to be a comedy" and with that mind set I had a ball with the film.

There were a lot of cheesy injokes about each others films and Chuck Norris should have been dressed in a block of cheese but it was a funny cameo. The action was very OTT but that's what everyone, including me, wants from a film like this and Van Damme, my favourite action star when I was younger, was actually quite good as the villain. He stood above everyone in the film IMO.

An improvement on the first film and if you have seen that and choose to watch The Expendables 2 then chances are you will enjoy it as its more of the same only better and has more fun with itself than it's predecessor.
