PUT THE LOTION IN THE BASKET
|
Time to set up the 2012 edition!
Rules: 1) List a 10 person 'active roster' you think will die in 2012. 2) When they die - you get points, 100 minus their age. 3) Bonus points - claim 10 extra points if you are the only person who has the dead guy on their list. 4) Double Points for deaths in December 2012 (double the age points, not the 10 solo points). This will make the game interesting with come-from-behind possibilities. 5) Double Points if you have two entries that pass on the same calendar date. The date in the time zone where the death occurred will be the determinant factor. 6) Taxi squad - list an extra two people for your 'taxi squad.' - If someone on your list dies, you can move a member of your taxi squad to your active roster. You only get points for your active roster. If someone on your taxi squad dies, too bad. 7) Deadline - posts must be dated or last edited by December 31st, 2011. 8) Scoring - keep your own f'ing score. If someone on your list dies, claim the points with a post on this thread that is a reply to your original list, or your most recent points claim. Make your taxi squad move at the time of the points claim. 9) Executions - No one who dies due to the sentence of a court will qualify. This is the "Chemical Ali" rule. 10) If you post someone on your list dies before the deadline, you can replace that person before the deadline. You can edit your choices up until the deadline All submissions must be made by December 31, in whatever time zone you're in. Person must be famous enough to have their passing covered by the wire services. If you're offended by this contest at this point, you're a lost cause.

No entrants yet. Hope it's just because everyone is being super cautious with their lists, because I am.
Besides, maybe there is a connection with my picks and people actually dying. Don't make me put a beloved figure up on my list, cause I'll do it dammit.

tough to make a list... should i go elderly? should i go popular? should i go addicts?
might even be too morbid for even me to make a list. almost like i was wishing for it... i don't believe in any sort of karma or anything, but i don't like the thought of it for some reason.

LONDON (AP) — Florence Green never saw the front line. Her war was spent serving food, not dodging bullets.
But Green, who has died aged 110, was the last known surviving veteran of World War I. She was serving with the Women's Royal Air Force as a waitress at an air base in eastern England when the guns fell silent on Nov. 11, 1918. It was not until 2010 that she was officially recognized as a veteran after a researcher found her service record in Britain's National Archives. Green died Saturday at the Briar House Care Home in King's Lynn, eastern England, two weeks before her 111th birthday, the home said.

Disabled ski champ Jill Kinmont Boothe dies at 75
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Jill Kinmont Boothe, the skiing champion who became a painter and a teacher after she was paralyzed during a race and was the subject of a book and two Hollywood films, has died. She was 75. Kinmont Boothe died Thursday at a hospital in Carson City, Nevada, Ruth Rhines of the local coroner's office told the Los Angeles Times. At age 18, the Los Angeles native was the national women's slalom champion and on the cover of Sports Illustrated. She was trying to make the U.S. Olympic team in 1955 when she crashed and broke her neck. She was paralyzed below her shoulders and would spend the rest of her life in a wheelchair. "At the time that she had her accident, she was probably the premier up-and-comer women's U.S. skier," Alan Engen, a former U.S. ski competitor and ski historian, told the Times. The crash before several thousand spectators was reported around the U.S. When she returned to Southern California on a stretcher after two months in a Salt Lake City hospital, crowds of reporters and cameramen greeted her at the train station. Her skiing career over, she learned to write, type and paint using her neck and shoulder muscles with the aid of a hand brace. After graduating from UCLA with a degree in German and English, she applied to the university's school of education and was rejected because of her disability, she later said. Determined to further her education, she moved north with her parents, earned a teaching certificate at the University of Washington and taught remedial reading off and on for the rest of her life. "To get mad, to scream and holler, to tell the world — that doesn't get you anywhere," she told the Times in 1968, when the newspaper named her a Woman of the Year. "You sort of look for what's good that's left, I guess." In the 1970s, Kinmont Boothe and her mother moved to Bishop, the California mountain town where she spent her early years and learned to love skiing. It's where she met her future husband, John Boothe. "I think the thing that impressed me most the first time I met her was that after a few minutes you forgot all about her being in a wheelchair," Boothe told the Times last year. "She obviously isn't preoccupied by it and pretty soon you're not either." In Bishop, Kinmont Boothe was an avid painter and continued to teach. A school in town is named after her. Her life was the subject of a 1966 book, "A Long Way Up: The Story of Jill Kinmont," by E.G. Valens, and two films, "The Other Side of the Mountain" in 1975 and a 1978 sequel. She is survived by her husband.
