I'm going to Spring Training games for the first time ever this March. My dad, sister and I are going down for the March 23-25 weekend to see three Brewer games in Arizona. Against the Angels, White Sox and Dodgers. I thought I was done with Pujols...

I wish I still had my autographed ball from Spring Training - I think it was the 1973 Pirates - It had at least 12 signatures and one of them was Stargel (Willie didn't sign his first name)

A student teacher I got to be friendly with brought it back from Florida and gave it to me. Yes I was a Pirate fan back then.

After basically paying him about $20 million dollars NOT to pitch for us, A.J. Burnett proceeds to bunt a ball right to his face, putting him out for a few months (or however long). Poor, poor Pirates, but that's karma for throwing a wild pitch every goddamn inning.

Unfortunately I left the ball in the truck after showing it to my best friend - and it was in the glove box for a while and then it was gone.

Ah well, I was about 12 - stupid kid lol

I also had some Harlem Globetrotters autographs including Geese Ausbie and Marques Haynes. But I only have one signature left and I know who gave it to me but I haven't figured out who he was - he was on the official bus but a little past his prime playing age. I'll have to write to the Globetrotters and ask if they can identify the man. That was about 1974

Ausbie was so tall he could have lifted his knee a little bit and whacked me in the chin.

It's both the best and worst thing about sports - it's not scripted. I tell myself that some day the Brewers will win it all and that we have a good team at the moment so maybe it'll be soon. Then I remember the teams that are in 40, 60 or 100 year droughts...and I get sad.

But it is better to think the good days are coming, I agree.

The Pirates are overdue. So much good talent rolls through there, it's bound to stick at one point -- I'm basing that off a graphic I remember seeing that had a list of people who were drafted/developed by the Pirates and ended up getting dealt, and then afterwards end up going on to great success. It was shocking.

Spring Training was pretty cool. I was literally a few feet from the players as they came out of the dugout.

Got a few autographs too:

Mat Gamel (starting 1st baseman)
Jonathan Lucroy (Our catcher)
Brooks Conrad (Probably bench)
Jerry Hairston Jr. (Dodger, but with us last year and I liked him)
Ron Roenicke (Manager)
Jose Veras (Relief pitcher, probably 7th inning)

It wasn't easy, you have to be really paitient. Also, you're pretty screwed if you want autographs from the stars.

Though I did almost get an autograph from Robin Yount. If only I was standing more to the right...
