Default Your Blu-Ray Wishlist

Now that I have finally joined the Blu-ray world, I have been looking into which of my movies are available on blu-ray and which are not.

So this thread is hereto post your Blu-ray wish list. What movies have not yet been released which you are looking forward to? Or, which movies only have bare-bones releases which you think should have some sort of special editions? Post them here.

My List:
The Star Wars Saga
Jurassic Park
E.T.
Jaws
Indiana Jones trilogy
Lawrence of Arabia

Star Wars and Brazil are both getting releases later this year. Sadly for Brazil it's being distributed by Universal and not Criterion. Hopefully Criterion can get ahold of it like they did with Fear and Loathing.

Some of my most wanted Blu-rays are E.T., Jurassic Park, pretty much all of Hitchcock's, but mainly Vertigo, Rear Window, The Birds (which I believe is the next one to come out), and especially Dial M for Murder.

Others:

4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days (Rumored to be coming from Criterion)
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (Out in Canada but don't really want to import it since it will most likely get a release here)
Kill Bill
Suspiria (Out in France and Japan)
Rosemary's Baby
Chinatown
Badlands (To complete Terrence Malick on Blu)

Lolita was on my list for a while but that finally gets a release next week. There are probably a bunch of others but those are some of the main ones.

My wishlist is small:

Star Wars
Jurassic Park
Finding Nemo
Pulp Fiction
Indiana Jones trilogy

Are you waiting for The Whole Bloody Affair, iv3r? Because that's never coming out on Blu-ray, I think that was actually officially announced somewhere. You're missing out on the individual Blu-ray releases though, they're pretty fantastic.

Yeah, I'm waiting for TWBA, and hopefully since there were screenings of it earlier this year, one of which I was lucky enough to attend, although certain parts of it were still missing, I'm still holding out hope for it, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's still a ways off. And yeah, I hear the individual releases are fantastic but I have like 3 different versions of the movie already and I really don't want to double dip again, even though it's one of my favorite films.

Also, Schindler's List isn't out, is it? There's not a lot of Spielberg films on Bluray right now.

It took long enough for a lot of his movies to come out on plain old DVD.

What about TV shows on DVD, since there's really not that many out there yet.

I would like to see:
West Wing
The Wire
X-Files

The X-Files on Blu-ray would be amazing, but I wouldn't buy them. I'm content with owning all nine seasons on SD and the two films on Blu-ray. As much as I love the show, I don't watch it enough to warrant an upgrade.

However, I do want to see Seasons 1-5 of Smallville eventually released on Blu-ray. It'll probably be a while, if ever, since some of the tech artists came out and said that the special effects are almost too poorly done to upgrade at this point. Maybe they'll pony up the dough to fix them and then release them individually.

Do they have 6 upwards on Bluray? Because it would seem silly then not to have the other 5 eventually.

Yeah. Season 5 was actually released on HD-DVD, so I have no idea why they never released it in Blu-ray too. Seasons 6-9 (and 10 soon) are on Blu. I wouldn't be too surprised if they never get released, honestly. It's not like Lost; there aren't going to be a lot of people who go out and re-buy the seasons in Blu-ray. The money it would cost to upgrade them and then produce them on a mass scale would probably outweigh the sales.

It makes my shelf look awkward though since I break up my collection into three different sections: Blu-ray, SD movies, and SD television. So 6-9 are in the Blu-ray section and 1-5 are in the SD television section. Oh well.

I'll definitely pick up the Jurassic Park trilogy. I don't know about Jaws. It's a great film, but I've had it sitting on my shelf for about... I don't even know, 4 years maybe, and I think I've watched it once.

Yeha, but when DVD started doing TV shows, it only started with shows with a huge fan following. Then every show under the sun, even Full House and the like, got releases. No need to think Bluray wont go the same route eventually.

And Smallville has a bigger fan following than most.

But Blu-ray isn't like DVD. I still have a lot of friends who insist there is no difference between DVD and Blu, whereas everybody was aware of the difference between DVD and VHS. DVD changed the industry. Blu is just making it better. I don't think random shows like Full House will get releases on Blu-ray. The demand isn't high enough.

And Smallville has a bigger fan following than most shows, but I don't think it has the obsessive fan base that something like Lost had, where people bought the standard definition discs and then upgraded to Blu-ray later on. Hell, some people bought the SD sets, then the individual Blu-ray sets, then the complete series. That's devotion. Smallville, in my opinion, doesn't have that. I would buy 1-5 in Blu-ray for sure, but I don't know if they would sell well in general.

Happy to see JP (maybe) and Jaws getting releases but I still want E.T.

Also, Ben-Hur is coming out later this year. http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Ben-Hur-Blu-ray/756/

I assume Ben-Hur will also come out with a version that isn't a huge, massive box.

It's possible, but I don't think it's been announced yet. I know there's a small version coming out in the UK though.

From what I hear, Gladiator needs a much better transfer released.
