Exclamation Pirates of the Caribbean 5

Johnny Depp's tour guide on his "Pirates of the Caribbean" voyages is plotting the course for a fifth installment even before the fourth movie sails into theaters.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer says he has a screenplay in the works for a fifth "Pirates" tale after May's "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" comes out.

Based on the Disney theme-park ride, the original three "Pirates" blockbusters ended up as a trilogy continuing the same key characters and story line. Bruckheimer says "On Stranger Tides" and future "Pirates" flicks will be stand-alone stories continuing the adventures of Depp's woozy buccaneer Capt. Jack Sparrow.

Directed by Rob Marshall ("Chicago"), "On Stranger Tides" sends Jack on a quest for the fountain of youth. Bruckheimer and Marshall showed off footage Tuesday at CinemaCon, a Las Vegas convention of theater owners.

At test screenings of "On Stranger Tides," "the audience told us what they loved about it is that it was fresh, it was new, it was a whole new story," Bruckheimer said in an interview alongside Marshall. "So that will carry over into the next one, too, to give it something fresh and different. As long as the audience embraces this one, we'll certainly try to make another one. It's really up to Johnny. He loves the character."

I can't really say I'm surprised at this. I'm certainly looking forward to "On Stranger Tides", but as long as they can come up with a solid story and everything for a 5th, then I'm on board (no pun intended).

I'd like to see Davy Jones and Blackbeard team up. But maybe Jones is human looking again and wants revenge against Sparrow.

Davy Jones is dead. Getting your heart stabbed tends to do that to you.

We've gotten Davy Jones, Black Beard, Mermaids, etc. So, what's next for the franchise? Any thoughts?

King Neptune since doing mermaids. As for Davy Jone getting stabbed in the heart. Barbossa was shot in the heart and he is in Pirate 4 and if Tia Dalma wanted him to live he would be living.

I can't imagine Calypso, who created the maelstrom specifically to kill Davy Jones, wanting to bring back the man who betrayed her. Besides, bringing Jones back to life would just be redundant. Pulling that trick once with Barbossa was enough.

As to future villians/characters, I wouldn't mind seeing Anne Bonny or Mary Read (or both), two very infamous female pirates, being brought into the franchise.

Some eye candy and potential love interests for Sparrow. Might be an interesting way to go. Good job.

I Always thought Captain Flint would be a good disney pirate to use. It be a way of having Hawkins, Silver and Sparrow in the same movie.

I do like how they've incorporated so much pirate lore all into one film world. I think a series of films in a similar style but set in the Old West would be good.

Johnny Depp is gonna star in a Lone Ranger film. So, you may get your wish.

I think a live action series with Depp like Rango would have been a big hit more so then his animated version. If he could get that cast for a live action western it be good

Which, coincidentally, will also be directed by Gore Verbinski.

LOS ANGELES – "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" is still weeks away from opening, but Johnny Depp and producer Jerry Bruckheimer are already thinking about a fifth "Pirates" film.

So what would the 47-year-old actor need to transform himself into the rum-swigging, swashbuckling Capt. Jack Sparrow again?

"Essentially the same ingredients that have gone into each and every one, especially this one," he says. "I would be in if it was right, for sure."

Bruckheimer is already at work on a fifth "Pirates" script. But Depp also has other projects on his plate, including a cameo in the big-screen adaptation of the 1980s TV hit that made him a star, "21 Jump Street."

He'd heard rumors about the film before being approached for the role, "then it finally came up and the dates were right and it was a gas," he says. "It was a real great experience and I was happy to do it."

He also has "The Rum Diary" set for release in October, and he'll soon get to work on "The Lone Ranger" with three-time "Pirates" director Gore Verbinski.

"We are in the throes of heavy-duty development, script development," he says of "The Lone Ranger." "It's coming along very nicely. I think it's going to be something we are going to be proud of."

First, though, is the latest "Pirates" installment, which opens May 20 and reunites Depp with one of his heroes, Keith Richards.

"To be able to bring him back into the `Pirates' fold, where he most certainly belongs, was a gas," Depp says. "Just spending a couple days sharing a trailer, it was as close, I suppose, as being in a rock `n' roll band with him as you can get."

The way Pirates 4 ended, I can guess we know who the villian will be.

Wonder if they'll go in a completely different direction and make Jack Sparrow the villain. Now that would be interesting.

Like I said before, I'd love to see someone like Anne Bonney enter the franchise. If they're bringing back Angelica for the next movie, which I'm sure they are given the post-credits scene of On Stranger Tides, then Bonney could be a possible villain.

I thought maybe she be the villian, considering Jack screwed her again and she is going to want revenge.

Then who would be the hero? Sparrow I cannot look at as a villian, more like an antihero...he is liked by too many people to be a villian.

Possibly, but I also see her once again using Jack to her advantage, like in this movie, not so much an all-out villain. But one thing's for certain: a female villain would be a refreshing change of pace.

It would be difficult to pull off, but interesting to watch at least for the first half hour in the movie.
