In Avatar, Zukko, his sister and his dad, the Fire Lord, were villains throughout the series. So, I imagine there will be more than one here as well.

Hahah! Mako is Batman!!
Just as strong, if not stronger, than the first two episodes. You could definitely sense the maturity in this one. Plus is feels and looks so much more cinematic! The art design of the city, its many inhabitants and surrounding is just...so cool. I like where they are going with the villain and I'm positive more will be popping up. The fight animation is incredibly smooth and again the music...I'm hoping they'll release soundtrack. I'm going to hate having to wait a week between shows. And I agree with you, Neverending, that they are allowing this series to become it's own story in the history of this universe. Excellent episode, top to bottom.

My ONLY complaint is the fact that Mako is pretty much Zuko, Bolin is pretty much Sokka, and Korra is the combination of Toph and Katara. The writers/creators are relying on characters that worked the first time round, redrawing them and putting them into The Legend of Korra. If it works, why fix it, right? It's a small complaint, though, and perhaps too early to judge. Still, you can't deny that we've kinda seen these characters before.

While it may seem that way with the characters, I'm sure that they'll mature into their own soon enough. They have sooooo much potential to grow here that it's crazy, and I can see it too.

The similarities don't bother me too much.

Zuko started out very single minded, which eventually changed over the course of three seasons. Mako isn't burdened by that kind of weight or scope. He's not angry at the world, he's just trying to survive in it and protect his brother. Bolin is the plucky comic relief like Sokka, but his demeanor seems much more playful and a little more naive. And Korra is tough like Toph, but hasn't learned her limits yet. And even Toph had a sense of the spiritual. Similarities? Yes. But not carbon copies.

Yeah, I know, I'm not worried either. It's just a small complaint, or rather, an observation.

Did anyone watch episode 4? It was a little too cliche. "I can kill you now, but I'll save it for later."

It's alright. I mean, it's still an animated show on Nickelodeon, so I don't mind a bit of cliche here and there. I bought his "martyr" explanation, and it did make sense. On the other hand, I feel that it was somewhat the weakest episode in the series so far, though that is not to say that it was bad. I felt that Korra changed her mind way too quickly with regard to being a part of the task force, not to mention the fact that she isn't exactly stupid, and really should've seen that dude's plans to get her into the task force from miles away. She really could've brushed it all off with a "No Comment". Towards the beginning of the episode, she was hesitant to confront Amon because of her his men completely thrashed her in the last episode. Then all of a sudden, she challenges him to a one-on-one dual? It's not like she had some secret martial arts training in between that prepared her for the confrontation. The switch from hesitance to confrontation was too quick and a little too convenient.
I enjoyed the ambush on the secret underground training camp, though. I thought that was pretty cool, the way they bent the water and froze everybody up. I just wished that more of the episode was dedicated to that, as well as Korra's irrational change of mind. Oh, not to mention the glimpses we saw of old Aang and old Sokka.

Yeah Korra seemed too prone to poking - she snapped when she was obviously led in front of the media as a trap.

I'll agree it's the weakest so far but that's not saying much. It just the quick pacing you need to keep the attention of kids. I'll let it slide. Besides this was very expositional, setting up the various arcs for the course of the series. I was a little surprised of Korra meeting Amon early but I bought the martyr explanation and it makes him all the more menacing. As for Korra's brash decisions, it just illustrates her impulsiveness and how much she still needs to learn about balance.
It's that slightly less exciting episode that every series has to push the plot forward. Plus the first three were just so good.

Yep, definitely wasn't a bad episode. It's weird that Korra had all those visions right after she fainted though. Did Amon somehow feed them into her brain or what.

I thought they were Avatar memories, but that wouldn't make much sense since she was actually seeing Aang.

Remind me again what Avatar memories are. You mean Avatars are supposed to also possess the memories of previous Avatars? It's been awhile since I saw the original series, clearly.

This thread only reminds me of how badly I need to watch Avatar.

The Avatars did "visit" Aang in the original series, so it could have been something like that.

The problem with the original series is that it's mostly geared towards children. That's why you get a lot of fillers in between episodes that drive the plot forward. You definitely should get your hands on the series, provided that you don't mind sitting through some of the really ridiculous fillers (like the episode with the zoo). I think someone out there should released an abridged version of the series, editing out all the fillers meant for children's entertainment.

Eh, they're okay. It's worse if you're watching them week to week. If you have the option to watch it all back to back, they're not that big a deal.

I hate watching this show week to week because I'm used to Avatar in large marathons like I did with The Last Airbender. But whenever I download an episode, I am unable to stop myself from watching it. I last a day at most, lol. I know once I download tonight's episode I'll watch it soon after.

This episode was alright, I guess. It will probably be better in the bigger scheme of things. It is sorely missing Amon and the Cabbage Selling Man.

I actually hope Korra and Bolin end up together instead. Not that it matters to the overall story but, I'm not a fan of Mako. And is it just me or are they placing too much emphasis on the matches? I mean, we have Amon as this looming villain who's OUT THERE SOMEWHERE, and yet we're being introduced to this new batch of bad guys for the pro-bending matches?
