Default Official 2010 MLB Thread

Well, the 2010 season is in full swing as some big moves are close to happening.

John Lackey is going to Boston it is reported, for 5 yrs, 85 million.

But even bigger news is that appears Doc Halladay is finally traded. However, it's for Cliff Lee...

Interesting move. Doc is great, but I thought the Phillies goal, if they tried to get him, was have him AND Cliff. And after the way Cliff pitched, I'm not sure this was their best move.

It's a good move seeing as he is a right hander, and they needed that, but this is also assuming Cole Hamels bounces back, which I'm not so sure he will. Time will tell.

Wow, two interesting deals.

Funny that the last time the Red Sox and Angels were playing was when the Angels eliminated them from the playoffs. This might help them out next time around.

In Brewer news:

- We got Randy Wolf from the Dodgers for three years, that's probably a good thing.

- Counsell's coming back, that's awesome. Corey Hart is surprisingly coming back. As is Villanueva, Stetter, Gerut and some other people. Unfortunatly, we got rid of some good people like Seth McClung who I always enjoyed watching and also Mark DeFelice, which is insane.

- Oh yeah, and Kendalls gone to the Royals and we got the Rays' back-up catcher Greg Zaun. I guess Kendall was too expensive, but he was our captain and if he trade him, a .220 hitter, for a .260 hitter who hits a few more home runs, I'm not sure it's worth it.

Doc Halliday is a great pitcher. Seen him here in Toronto having to suffer with a poor Bluejay team year after year. Glad to see he'll probably get a shot at a title.

Boston:

Bay is looking at better offers

Mike Lowell was reportedly on the cusp of being traded to the Texas Rangers for C Max Ramirez - his medical condition is being examined by the Rangers at the moment

Shortstop Marco Scutaro was signed to a two-year contract with an option for a third season

The Sox signed RHP Tim Wakefield to an incentive-laden two-year deal, and C Jason Varitek opted to pick up his $3 million option for the 2010 season

Arrivals: RHP Boof Bonser (trade with Twins), INF Marco Scutaro (free agent from Blue Jays), OF Jeremy Hermida (trade with Marlins), INF Tug Hulett (trade with Royals).

Departures: LHP Hunter Jones (traded to Marlins), C George Kottaras (claimed off waivers by Brewers), SS Alex Gonzalez (free agent, signed with Blue Jays), LHP Billy Wagner (free agent, signed with Braves), RHP Takashi Saito (free agent, signed with Braves).

Free Agents: OF Jason Bay, OF Rocco Baldelli, RHP Paul Byrd, SS Nick Green, OF Brian Anderson.

Arbitration-eligible: RHP Manny Delcarmen, OF Jeremy Hermida, 1B Casey Kotchman, LHP Hideki Okajima, RHP Jonathan Papelbon, RHP Ramon Ramirez.

Papelbon could net anywhere from $8 million to $10 million this winter. Sox might let him go for big-time bat or a young, top-of-the-line starting pitcher in return.

Medical Watch:

RHP Tim Wakefield (back surgery in October 2009) expects to be ready for the start of spring training.

SS Nick Green (back surgery in November 2009) should be ready by spring training.

OF J.D. Drew (minor left shoulder surgery in November 2009) is expected to be healthy enough to play the outfield in spring training.

Yankees

EDIT - Hideki Matsui and the Los Angeles Angels have reached a preliminary agreement on a one-year contract worth about $6.5 million

Damon is getting offered a lesser deal than he had last season. Something like a third less money and two years instead of three

It looks like the Red Sox are also geting our center fielder Mike Cameron, who's a bit too expensive for us.

a $15.5 million, two-year contract. He gets a $1 million signing bonus and annual salaries of $7.25 million.

Francona had some contact with coaching him in the minors.

BTW, for those interested, I will be probably holding a Fantasy Draft @ 2 Sundays before Opening Day. That way some of the dust will be settled and we shall be able to better see who may be on the field. That thread will be started as we come nearer to that date.

That's the problem... The Bluejays are really nothing more than a farm team. I can't handle the reality of it anymore!

Mark McGuire really screwed himself up here. I believe he had a chance not to long ago to maybe be with the Cards this year as a hitting coach. He can kiss that good bye.
