However, at the same time, I loved Q's role in TNG because he was something new and they were the first to encounter him and he played such a pivotal role as a foil to Picard, that it would pain me a little sentimentally to see him in a new film (but since we have a new timeline, and since he's Q, throw all logic to the wind!)

Yeah, I'm all for having some sort of humanity lesson, but I like it more when it's kind of hidden in the story (like Kirk's classic hatred of Klingons and their war against humans). I just thought Berman did a lousy job of trying to have an actual story without just blatantly saying "Hey, stop stripping the planet of natural resources" or whatever he wanted his message to be. I prefer the message to be subtle and hidden, but deep. Berman was as deep as a Koi pond.

I would love to see the Kirk vs Klingons hatred thing. I would rather have that than Khan.

Well put.

(On a side note, I just finished watching the Voyager series. That just leaves Enterprise...I guess.)

Voyager is one of my favorites of the ST shows.

What did you think of it?

Me also, I got so pissed with that series. after 9/11 they toally lost their minds when it came to the show. It took a total different turn & pretty much just DIED a slow death. I do believe that they became way to FULLLLLLL of themselves.

Like J Bond. I don't want to Khan or anyother remake/reboot of previous movie. They can do almost anything now being that ST is in an AU. So, why rehash the old stuff.

I must say though, I freaking Love Q. he brighten up each of the series & still there were lessons in every one of his visits to each series. I loved that quy. Him & Quark were my fav. chracters out of all the ST series.

Voyager was really good. It definently had a lot more adventure than the others. My personal favorite was DS9. The epic war scenes get me every time. Not to mention I absolutely love Avery Brooks and the Ben Sisko character, I wish they would have made a movie off him.

I think Voyager was my favorite of the newer series too, but there's nothing that reaches TOS

De lancie doesnt have to be the one to play Q. Since it is a new series and new people are playing classic roles they can easily get some one new to play Q. And i know just the person: Michael Sheen. After watching Frost/Nixon he does a good job playing a role that has a mix of seriousness and lightheartedness. Which is precisely what is needed to play Q.

I liked it more and more as it went on. Would I be crazy to say the seventh season may have been the best? Or maybe I didn't retain the older ones better? Anyway, I was sad to see it end. (I noticed Bryan Fuller was a writer on the show in the seventh season, maybe that has something to do with it.)

But DS9 is my favorite.

Yeah your right... The show and characters got a lot better as the show went a long. For me it was the show that introduced Star Trek universe too me so... Naturally it's my favorite haha.

I really hope they keep Pike around though - he was an excellent character. Overall, the character selections for this movie were fantastic. I'm just happy to have the original crew up and rolling again (albeit with new actors). So awesome!

Yeah, I agree, I hope he comes back, the Pike character was great, he got used quite a bit as well. Plus I loved how they gave him a somewhat modified version of the Starfleet uniform from "The Motion Picture" at the end. The use of his character and those little touches are what kept the older fans happy as well.

Hope they hang on the great cast that they have and make some more great movies.
hate it when a character is played by someone else later on in a trilogy etc.

Yeah, like with what they did with Kirk, Spock, Bones, Scotty, Uhura, Sulu and Chekov that one time. It'd be a real blow to the series if they couldn't get what's-his-face to play Kirk again.

Quoted for Truth.

And along with Quark being a great character I also enjoyed Rene Auberjonois's character Odo. His sarcastic tongue brought many a smile.

I'm saying it's very funny to say you don't like when casts change after such a drastic one. I don't like when the basing of a movie is on a personation contest.

You're right, but it would pretty much kill the momentum if they suddenly brought in a new Kirk or someone else to play Spock don't you think?

I'm sure these guys aren't going anywhere any time soon. This is a cash cow franchise for them. They now have a lifelong career doing conventions if anything else.lol.

Wonder if they'll ever try to revive the TV series with this cast...

They are working on a new Star Trek series. But it won't have Enterprise in it.

Yep the creator of Heroes is writing it up. He says he loves the feel and look of the movie and is writing it around that time. I don't understand, I WANT TO SEE FURTHER IN THE FUTURE! I wanna see the Titan or Excalibur. Why do they think the answer is to go further back? Enterprise bombed going back. Urgh.
