I like 3D if done correctly. But even if it the 3D is bad, I'll see it in 2D so won't matter

I do hope this comes to IMAX though

Peter Weller ("RoboCop" films) has joined the cast of J.J. Abrams' Star Trek sequel in an unknown role, reports Variety.

The film recently cast Benicio Del Toro as the villain and Alice Eve as reportedly a new character. John Cho, Simon Pegg, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban and Anton Yelchin are set to return for the follow-up.

Abrams will direct from a script by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof. Abrams, Kurtzman, Orci, Lindelof, Bryan Burk and David Ellison will produce through Bad Robot and Skydance Productions.

Paramount will start filming in early 2012 for a May 17, 2013 release.

How would people feel about Benedict Cumberbatch playing a new iteration of Q?

Picard and then Janeway's relationship with Q were favorite aspects of mine from TNG and Voyager, and I loved John de Lancie. But, I don't see why, in a movie set during the early years of the original crew in an alternate timeline, why a new iteration of Q would in any way take away from those relationships. And...then I remind myself this all isn't real, anyway, so if they have something cool cooked up with a Q storyline, Cumberbatch is awesome, so I'm all for it. de Lancie has already said he doesn't want to revisit the character.

KHHHAAANN!!!…Wait, Who Is This?

http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/240...it-who-is-this

So is it Khan or isn't it?

The debate over whether Khan Noonien Singh will be the villain in the upcoming "Star Trek" sequel took another turn today after 'Scotty' himself, actor Simon Pegg, flatly denied the claims in an interview with The Telegraph.

"It’s not Khan. That’s a myth. Everyone’s saying it is, but it’s not. I think people just want to have a scoop. It annoys me – it’s beyond the point to just ferret around for spoilers all the time to try to be the first to break them. It just spoils the film. It masquerades as interest in the movie but really it’s just nosiness and impatience. You just want to say, ‘Oh f--- off! Wait for the film.'"

Rumors have swirled of Khan's involvement since the film was announced. When "Sherlock" star Benedict Cumberbatch won the role of the film's villain, an actor who is physically the complete opposite of the character, doubts crept in.

Then a report on AICN a few weeks ago claimed Cumberbatch was indeed playing Khan after all. A story that Pegg's quote now discredits.

So who is Cumberbatch playing? Of that Pegg only says he's "not just another disgruntled alien. It’s a really interesting… sort of… thing… Obviously I can’t talk about it."

----------------------------------------------------------------------

I love Cumberbatch! He's amazing in Sherlock just the idea of him being a villain is amazing to me! I'm so interested to see where this goes it's not even funny... Don't tell me it will suck I have hope still!

Benedict Cumberbatch is playing Khan according to IMDB, even thought Simon Pegg has vehemently stated that Khan is NOT the villiain.

I would be kind of disappointed I think if he was playing Khan. That would be like casting Daniel Radcliff to play Rocky in a reboot.

Damon Lindelof Teases 'Star Trek 2' Villain & Massive Enterprise Set

http://www.firstshowing.net/2012/dam...nterprise-set/

From one sci-fi to the next! With Ridley Scott's Prometheus soon arriving in theaters, many websites have been interviewing co-writer Damon Lindelof. Of course, interviews drift into future development territory and a few of them really got into it on Star Trek 2, which J.J. Abrams is still shooting. Damon talked with Collider about a couple of different topics which, while are really just the writer hyping up the good aspects of it, but they all sound pretty damn good anyway. Especially the size and scope of the USS Enterprise this time, and a rather preemptive claim on how "iconic" of a performance Benedict Cumberbatch is giving.

We haven't seen or heard too much since Abrams started shooting Star Trek 2 earlier this year, still without an official title, but that means they're keeping everything under very tight wraps. However, with Damon out talking to press, he seems kind of excited to chat about it anyway, and gets into it with Collider. He comments on the reunion: "When you see all the actors again, and Kirk in his yellow—which we only really see at the very, very end of the first movie—and start playing those interactions between he and Bones, he and Scotty, Spock and Bones, etc. And then bringing in some new blood, Alice Eve is awesome." He also talks enthusiastically about another actor, Benedict Cumberbatch, who seems to be impressing everyone.

Quote:
"Benedict Cumberbatch, I can already say with a certain degree of confidence that he is gonna give an iconic film performance and one of the best sci-fi performances that I've ever seen. And not even having seen the movie yet, just sitting there in video village with the headphones on. So I'm really psyched."
I am, too. Even though we just barely heard a rumor a few weeks ago that Cumbertbatch is indeed playing Khan, there's no official confirmation yet and Lindelof doesn't drop any hints either way — just this buzz. However, he does also tease some other exciting details regarding the size of the Starship Enterprise they're shooting on this time around. If I'm accurately reading between the lines here, they built a near-scale model completely connected of the inside rooms of the USS Enterprise, to shoot this? Awesome. Lindelof explains:

Quote:
"It was incredible, and I think that Trek 2—there's certainly an instinct to just go bigger in the second movie and one of the things that we did was we connected all the sets, so you can just basically follow the actors off the bridge, into a turbo lift, down, walking through a plaza, into the med bay as opposed to [having to] cut every time you do that, because when we were shooting on the Paramount stages we just didn't have the money to connect all the sets. So the first day that I actually walked on the Enterprise, you walked through the Enterprise and it's a very insular experience of like, 'Wow I'm actually on a starcraft.'"
Oh how I wish I could've set foot on that set. But I'm sure we'll get some incredible shots of it — hopefully in IMAX, wink wink — of that journey through the Enterprise when this comes out in the summer of 2013 next year. In the meantime, can we expect to actually see anything soon? Maybe at Comic-Con coming up this July, perhaps? In Lindelof's interview with TrekMovie, he states: "We need to put our best foot forward. We just wrapped principal photography as you know and Comic-Con is in mid-July so it is an aggressive timetable. If we are going to go we are going to go big or not go at all." Let's hope they go real big, right?!

We suggest you watch the full interview on Collider with Damon Lindelof, as well as the TrekMovie update. I don't expect Damon to reveal much in the way of plot at all, but I'm glad to hear some hype in the way this sequel is getting bigger and better. We'll continue to keep you updated on all things Abrams' Star Trek 2.

The set they're on-- which obviously has some green screen in the background-- is described as the "Space Barge," and they learned that at some point after this, Spock's Vulcan Nerve Pinch fails and Cumberbatch's villain regains the upper hand. MTV says that's a black Starfleet uniform Cumberbatch is wearing underneath his funky gray jacket, and while I'm not totally convinced-- couldn't that just be another high-collared shirt?-- it is interesting to speculate that he was a friendly member of Starfleet before turning into the film's villain.
