Finally got around to watching it. Funny, but far from their best. Very excited to have the show back again. I don't think I've ever missed a show during a hiatus as much as I've missed the Community the past few months... with the exception of Lost, obviously.

Nielsen ratings are irrelevant since most of the target audience doesn't have a nielsen box. DVR and Hulu counts more.

I think they're scared about what they might discover. Advertisers, the bread and butter of network television, invest millions to get their products promoted. If tomorrow they woke up and discovered that they have wasted their money on the wrong shows it would turn the industry upside down.

Right now, their best option is to "transition" from Nielsen. They count DVR's. They count online streaming. They count downloads from iTunes, Amazon, and Vudu. But Nielsen is still the "focal point."

However, that's gonna change in the next 5-to-10 years. Streaming is becoming more common and there's a big techological push towards that. VOD (Video on Demand) will eventually became the deciding factor on whether a show is successful or not.
