all comic movies should strive to be the next dark knight. i can see no reason why they wouldn't, universally praised and made a ton of money. but it seems the ones coming out these days are just aiming to be the next fantastic four. make money but be terrible.

where are the ones dealing with more mature themes? where are the ones that have a grittiness and a supposed 'realness' like TDK?

they give us the same formulaic response to an origin story as every comic movie we've ever seen. but like fantastic four, people eat it up.

Yes they should all strive to make TDK like money, but doesn't mean a comic book movie to be good needs to be realistic and gritty....A comic book movie can be a little bit more unrealistic, more fantasy orientied or what ever you wanna call it and STILL BE FUN.

Iron Man 1 IMO nailed it, i didn't like the second one so much but the first one really got the perfect balance of being a fun and enjoyable movie but also not being Fantastic Four bad.

I see what your saying with origin stories are starting to become very redundant i could totally understand someone not as into comic book movies getting annoyed by the, , but at the same time these characters that aren't as known like Batman,Superman or Spider-man need the background, it doesn't matter it its a very similar plot and story as long as the movie is well written and the characters are engaging and show depth thats why i found Thor to be a very engaging origin movie same with IM1 and Batman Begins as well as Spider-man 1.

TDK was a great comic book movie and really took them to a new level , but doesn;t mean they all have to be like that to be considered good.

Who the **** are you to be able to decide that comic book movies should stop and the lesser characters shouldn't get a chance?.

And again doesn't matter if i do or don't see it or anyone on this website, theres millions of people who will continue to support crap movies whether it be comic book or not comic book, so you trying to rally people its quite pathetic.

Besides Iron Man 1, Thor,Hellboy1,V for Vendetta,300,Sin City,Blade .

These are all lesser known comic book characters that had successful and generally well liked movies, just because you don't like them doesn't mean they should all of a sudden stop.
Why does everyone call Iron Man a lesser known character? He had a massive cartoon in the 90's.

He did? Are you talking about the cartoon that was similar to the Spider-man one?(Same animation style and what not)

If so, i would hardly call that one "massive" especially since in the 90's Spider-man ,X-men, and Batman were the "massive" comic book cartoon series.

Iron Man is probably a bit more known than Green Lantern but i wouldn't call it one of the more known like Batman,Superman,Spider-man,X-men and id say Fantastic Four and Hulk are more known characters than Iron Man.

I disagree with every comic book film being exactly like TDK. I mean Nolan's style fit for that movie, would not fit for anything esle.

I don't think Franklin means in terms of style or tone or what have you. I think he's just talking about the mix of critical appeal, along with the tremendous box office.

The problem i have the overall green suit because that can make it cartoony no matter what. Batman and Iron Man suits are cool and even Cap has an awesome suit but green suit on an caucasian male is right up there with supermans out dated outfit.

Superman's outdated? Supe's costume is timeless and the moment it changes, I guarantee no matter how good the movie might be, the makers of it will probably lose like 100 mil in revenue. Its a random number but you see what I mean.

They could have gone with a much more realistic suit for Green Lantern but everyone and their mom is hung up on how the visuals will look in 3D so they went that route and are paying the price for it now. If GL really sucks I wouldn't be surprised if a sequel gets canned and the next time we see GL is in a Justice League movie. So in other words GL will probably be rebooted in 2 to 3 years. lol

Well even Superman can be more pulled off here. The green tight suit and green ring. Your going into Tron Legacy and even Speed Racer visuals when you use that much green in live action.
I loved the Justice League and Justice League unlimted version of Green Lantern and thought a Black GL would been good here even if he comic wise was white. I mean did anyone have a problem with MCD as King Pin in Daredevil. Not really because he was big enough to pull it off.
I am seeing this because Mark Strong seemed awesome and Rush and MCD as characters has me there. Ryan And his comedy style bothers me in this but i am giving it a chance until i see it.

Iron Man 1, Spider-man 2, X-men 2.

Movies that got great reviews and made a alot of money.

I personally didn't like Spider-man 2, but when people mention great comic book movies, people always mention Spider-man 2

Obviously there are other examples. It's just that The Dark Knight made the most money, received the most critic love, and is a recent example.
