Default Ridley Scott back to sci-fi

Ridley Scott is Returning to Sci-Fi
Source: Eclipse Magazine June 4, 2008

Eclipse Magazine talked to Blade Runner and Alien director Ridley Scott, who says he's finally ready to go back to sci-fi:

I waited for a book for 20 years and I have got the book. I am not going to tell you what the book is but that film is going to probably be written within the next month. That will definitely be what I do next after Nottingham, the Robin Hood film that I am doing now in England.

This sounds intrigueing, what do u guys think?

Wonder if he'll use Russell Crowe again, who's becoming his go-to man. Wouldn't mind if he did.

that would be awesome if it was brave new world... the original movie was... underwhelming.

There's a rumor it may be Brave New World. *shrug*

Though my guess woudl be it's going to be a more modern book since he says he's been waiting for a book.

That's what I was thinking. One that probably hasn't been used yet as well.

Either that or he just took long to realize it's existence. =P

So anyone know of any recent sci-fi books, like within the last 5 years, that have been very popular? Obviously, on the science-fiction front, there have been many. Just any stand-alones perhaps that have stuck out? I can think of a few, but they're all out of series, and not really on their own. It would seem unlikely that he'd choose a book that's right in the middle of a series, but I guess it's possible.

Its not going to be a book that recent. He said he's been waiting for the book for 20 years. My guess he's been trying to get the rights for that long, or something.

Good point. Didn't think of it like that (or I didn't really pay attention to what he actually said).

I took it as, he's been waiting for a science-fiction book that he'd like to adapt for 20 years, and he finally found one.

What you said kinda makes more sense to me now.

We'll find out when he eventually gets around to telling everyone what it is. Who knows when the heck that will be though.

I wish.

Plus, he said SciFi, not Fantasy.
