Question I Discovered Indy In...

Okay we need to save this forum. What year did you become a fan of Indy? Did you see the films in the theatre during original runs or special local screenings? Or did you first see Dr.Jones on VHS (or TV) and are awaiting your first big screen experience with him in 2008?

Well, I figured this forum would explode as soon as the trailers and pics hit the web. After the release, it would flatline like the Pirates forum has.

Anyways, I've watched Indy since I was a little kid. I was born in 1985 so I don't remember Raiders or Temple of Doom, and I don't even rememeber Last Crusade being released even though I was a little kid. It wasn't long after that when I saw Raiders and I was really into it. I became an Indy afficionado when I was about 13 when they said they were "fasttracking Indy 4," psh. Now that Crystal Skull (a title which I still hate btw) is on the way it's pretty much my #1 anticipated movie. I really don't know what I'm going to do once it's released, but until May I'm trying to fast from any photos, trailers, or synopses so I won't know what I have in store.

I orignally saw them on video when I was younger but I can't remember exactly when. I do belive though I saw either Crusade or Temple of Doom first, then Raiders later. I do remeber instantly falling in love with them and being slightly confused as to why Indy looked so much like Han Solo. :p

Then in high school a local theater showed all three on the big screen during one weekend so the whole family went to see them. Sooooooo awesome.

Also liked Young Indy Chronicles.

I am aging myself here, but I did see Raiders and Temple when they came out in the theaters.

I have only watched the last crusade once, and never care to watch it again, and I havent seen any of the young indys.

I do have the trilogy on DVD.

I'm with Dooms, I grew up watching the movies, I don't remember when I became a fan. Same thing with Star Wars. I wish I could say I remember when Last Crusade came out since I was already 7, but I don't.

My parents have told me that Last Crusade was one of the first films I ever saw (I was 1 when it came out). I have no recollection of liking it or not (obviously), but I was pretty much raised on the films. My dad is a bigger aficionado than I am, but I still claim that Raiders is one of my all-time favorite films, if not my absolute favorite.

I first watched the Indiana Jones movies as the same age as I discovered the original Star Wars movies. Which is 5th grade 1997.

I've been alive during every incarnation of Indy, so I always remember him being around, even though I don't really remember exactly when I saw the films first. I do remember seeing Last Crusade in the theatres. I turned 11 that year, and I had been a fan for as long as I can remember before that.

I think i must've seen Temple of Doom first (on VHS...or Betamax!) then Raiders of the Lost Ark because i remember being convinced that that had been the order in which they were made until somebody told me otherwise. I also remember going to see Last Crusade at the cinema with my family, I was 7 but can still vividly picture us waiting outside the old Canon theater queueing in the rain for at least 45 minutes. I'm sure i hated standing there at the time but looking back, before the days of trailers, tv spots and all the information you could want became readily available online, all you knew was the title and the legacy, and it's a shame it'll never be like that again...for me anyhoo.

I think the real question we should be asking though is: what does slinger have against 1988?!

I was 1 when The Last Crusade came out. My older brother (9 years older then me) and my two cousins were big fans. So, as I got older, they had a big influence on me. My other brother (2 years older), is a much bigger fan, and is the biggest fan in my family. So, when I was a kid I would watch the movies all the time with him. I don't remember the exact time I first watched the films, but I was probably 9 or 10. For as long as I can remember I have always loved Indy. I think the first film I remember watching was Temple.

Don't you remember the Indiana Jones Ban of '88?

There are only 20 poll options (25 at SHH) and I do remember having a 1987-88 as an option. Then I changed it so (I thought) every year in the 80s would have an option. My mistake.

You were partially right about Temple of Doom. While it was made three years after Raiders it is actually a prequel.

Born the same year as Dooms and the only thing I remember from '89 was Batman. Which I don't think I saw until Christmas that year on VHS.
Then I was introduced to the Back to the Future Trilogy in '90/'91. Then I saw Temple of Doom on television (remember how great it was to watch movies on network tv?), loving that movie. My parents then bought the trilogy through Columbia House, and became a huge fan of other two. Crusade and Raiders would be my favourites. I remember watching ROTJ sometime around 1993 but I didn't become a SW fan until early 1995 when I saw ANH on TV.

Indy 4 will probably be the only film in 2008 my whole family will see in theatres (not together, those days are gone) and enjoy.

Still have the Indy Trilogy on VHS, I've been waiting for them to release a DVD boxset with Indy 4. At the time the DVDs came out it seemed like the fourth film could happen within a year so why buy the boxset when they'll have a new one out in a year or so?

The funny thing i remember about Batman in '89 is how i had no chance of seeing it (it was rated 15), and yet I had all the toys, the sticker album, the OST and bought all the edible tie-ins! Imagine being caught up in all of that without actually being able to see the movie until renting it out at least a year later...if my parents allowed of course.

That sorta happen with me and Jurassic Park in that my parents would let me read the book, but I couldn't go see the movie (I was 11). I always though that was weird.

That is exactly verbatim what happened to me, I still don't own them on DVD and at this point I can just wait another year for another box set.

I saw both Raiders of the Lost Ark and Temple of Doom in the theater. I was ten when Raiders came out. The rest of the movies I haven't seen.

Went to the theaters for all three.
Was completely wowed by Raiders, was impressed by Temple and had my heart warmed by Crusade. I watched all of the Indiana Jones Chronicles, but loved the teenager versions a lot more, hated the old cranky Dr. Jones.
Wish I could go and buy a ticket for Crystal Skull now.

I wasn't allowed to watch it for a while...but then my parents gave up

Apparently my parents went to see the Last Crusade at the cinemas the night before I was born!!!
