Question for admin/tech guy

I was just wondering if it was possible to implement a forum feature like "personal sticky". So if you are following a topic you can choose to always have it on top. Ive seen some other forums use this and it often makes discussions more interesting because the people who are following it keeps coming back. Because it doesnt get burried in all the mess so quickly. Is this possible with vB?

Doesn't that sort of happen at the User CP? I donno how useful it would be here but that would be great at the uber fast hype.

I'd quite like this if it were to be made.

The closest thing I can think of is subscribing to a thread. Then, you'll always have a direct link to that thread in your User CP.

Yup. Was just gonna say that. I use the subcription threads all the time. It's pretty much the same thing. Just check your User CP.

That, and simply searching for your own posts works fine for following threads you've posted in.

Oh, I had a question about subscribing. How come I have multiple subscriptions in my CP when I didn't even subscribe in the first place? I mean, I just saw a new one added today that I just posted in only once. Is that normal?

I know, but thats not exactly what i ment. When you have experienced this on another forum you dont wanna go back

I meen, you have no idea how wonderfull it is to not always have "what movie did you see today", "yes/no" or "and/or" threads on the top.

Ah well, its a minor thing I guess. Just makes stuff simpler.

Not really. As this would be a thing for everyone to enjoy and it would be simple to use. If everyone used such a feature it would be easier to have a more interesting discussion. If it was just a matter of clicking a "make sticky" button on a thread people wouldnt hesitate.

If you post in it you subscribe to it, unless you unsubscribe or you pick not to.

Additional Options, Thread Subscription, Notification Type, Do Not Subscribe.

Is there some way you can link me to an example? I think I know what you mean, but visual reference would always make it easier.

I see Alien already answered, but I'll clarify a bit more, in stating that by default, the option is set up so that if you post in a thread, it's gonna subscribe you, with no email notification.

Say I change the option. Is there a way to manually subscribe to one?

Aye. Simply go to thread tools, and check "subscribe to thread".

The 1up.com boards has this kind of feature. I took a screenshot of it so you can see:

There you can see the thread options which is easily accessible in every thread. By simply clicking "float this thread to the top" you will "sticky" it (only stickied for yourself of cource).

It stickies it just below the mod/admin stickies so that announcments will always be on top. Then Mod sticky and then your own. So basically just like a normal sticky.
