Haha, I was thinking the same. I have a feeling that if I watched it now, I might cringe, despite the fact it was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid. I call it the Hook complex.

Rob Zombie is a twisted, depraved, sick little mother****er....but I knew that already. He has taken what he seems to know best a wrapped it up in celluloid for all to see. And as a person who rarely watches the horror genre, I will say I was entertained. Yes the violence is sickening, yes the use of the word **** is grossly over done, but as a director, Zombie actually shows some promise. In composition, The Devils Rejects a good watch. It's shot much like an old 70's B-Horror with grainy texture, off center shots and makes great use of music I will say.

The story even is interesting. When you hunt the monster long enough, when do you eventually become the monster? Forsythe is awesome. Every scene he does is captivating. That voice just draws you in. Everyone else was fine as well with the exception of Sheri Moon. Yeah yeah, we all know why she was in the movie, but it didn't stop her from being incredibly annoying a majority of the time.

Though not terribly suspenseful and it's certainly shocking. All things aside, it kept my interest and I might consider picking up House of 1000 Corpses.

7.5/10
Yeah! I'm glad you liked it! Zombie is a sick mofo. You're right though, he does show promise as a director and certainly has that 70's flair touch to his movies. 1000 Corpses is the prequel, but on a whole different level. Check it out!

The Boondock Saints (1999)

Let me start by saying I have heard so much about this movie from friends that it is so awesome and I must see it. So it begins. South Boston. Interesting, a lot of good movies take place there. Mystic River and Good Will Hunting first come to mind, and maybe this one will take those films approach. Nope. This movie is just a flat out disappointment. Two Irish brothers suddenly decide to rid the streets of Boston of all those horrible people that populate it. What ensues is a sequence of pointless scenes after the next. This movie really wasn't even fun. Save for the scene where they come in from the ceiling, the movie really doesn't even make you smile. It was more of a chore going through every crime scene in the exact same way, with Willem Dafoe dancing around to opera music.

The bad camera shots and editing don't help either. Many of the slow motion shots were just bland, adding really nothing to the action sequences. The dialogue isn't bad, it isn't great either though. I just sat there bored, wondering how a movie that has nothing outstanding about it got so much praise. They could've done so much more with this story than they did, and in the end I was just glad it was over.

3/10

I'm in for next round.

Hmm I haven't seen that movie since I was in Highschool.

But one thing is for sure though, nobody hyped that movie up for me as one of the greatest things ever made.

I just saw it with no expectations and I loved it, also that was about 5 years ago too. So if I do see end up seeing it again I might end up hating it as well.

That seems to be the general consensus around here. You see it when it came out and love it. Watch it again and see that it's not very good.

Gummo

so i have seen Kids, and was relatively ready for what to expect from this movie. but damn, what the hell did i just watch? its not so much a movie as it is just a bunch of scenes strewn together haphazardly. from the multiple mentally challenged people in the movie, including a mentally challenged prostitute, to the kids who make money by killing cats, to the homosexual kid who takes care of his 'dead' grandma, this movie is filled with disturbing images. however, i was curious, if there was any symbolism in this movie, it would have to include the child with the pink bunny ears, but what does he symbolize? i can not figure it out.

i guess the movies climax is a battle to the death between two country boys and a chair in the middle of the kitchen after some beers and some arm wrestling. i truly hope this was a work of fiction, but i would not be surprised if all of this was going on in a town near you. i honestly have no idea if i hated this movie, liked this movie, or loved this movie. im completely indifferent to it.

5/10

im in for next round.

Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance

This is the first film in the "Vengeance" trilogy by director Chan-Wook-Park. In the film, a deaf man(Ryu) needs to get a kidney transplant for his sister, and devises a plan with his girlfriend to kidnap the daughter of his former boss and hold her for ransom. Unfortunately, things go horribly wrong, as the daughter is accidentally killed and the father now wants revenge, while Ryu wants revenge from these people who conned him.

I had the pleasure of seeing Oldboy before seeing this film, and I loved the hell out of it. Unfortunately, seeing Oldboy made my expectations for Mr. Vengeance too high. While this film was good, lacked what made Oldboy so great. Oldboy had a pretty huge and disturbing twist at the end, while Mr. Vengeance was basically and average revenge story. The level of violence was about the same (though nothing in this topped the hallway fight in Oldboy).

I also didn't like how this film ended. The plot wrapped up pretty nicely, but then the last 5 minutes really disappointed me. I understand what the director was trying to do with the ending, yet I found it to be too depressing.

Overall, this was a pretty good film, but not as good as the next film.

Now I wanna see Lady Vengeance.

Rating:7/10

Note: I'm in for the next round.

Zodiac

I'll admit it, about an hour and a half to two hours into this 2:36 movie, I lost track of what was going on. But the reason I still know this is a good movie, is that I really tried and wanted to know what was going on. If I could talk to myself before I started the movie, I would tell me to pay closer attention to the character names. I hardly ever pay attention to them in movies, and this time it was a big mistake when people are yelling things like "Hodgson told Davies that the killer was Hardy! Ask Miller, he'll confirm it."

This movie is not built like most "Find the killer" movies, and I think a lot of that is due to it being (what it seems to be) a close adaptation of what really happened. It'll seem like it's going somewhere, and you know where because you've seen it in every other killer movie, but then it'll say "Seven years later" and you're thrown off your feet. At first this bothered me, but once you accept that's how this plot works, it's quite refreshing, You look at the story in a different way. It's like a movie that's 20% documentry but not boring and wonderfully directed by David Fincher. There's an art to make a real story into an interesting movie, you have to knwo what to show, how to show it and what not to show. I'm babbling, so I'll move on.

The thing I loved best about this movie is the ending. Though it sounds obvious, I want to emphasized it nonetheless: the ending of a movie is very important. I can hate an otherwise good movie if they spit out an awkward, horrible ending. Likewise, I can enjoy and trick my memory into thinking a bad movie was good if it ends well. So anyway, here is a 156 minute movie and that is about the point where a movie doesn't work as a whole anymore, it usually has to split into periods or sections to work. This movie however, kind of...kept going. It was interesting and boring at the same time (and I was tired). But this movie did something amazing, it put a bow around the whole movie, and it did it with a song.

When the first person is killed, they're listening to a song in 1968 (I think), called Hurdy Gurdy Man by Donovan. (I spoiled nothing, it's so obvious these people will die). Now it helped that I liked this song, but it helped even more that by liking it, I remembered it being there before the title even came up. Then, 2 and a half hours later, forever later at the end, this now older man in 1999 who survived this 1968 shooting, is questioned about the killer and the song comes back...and you know it's over. Not just the movie, but the story. Here is this song that is first played on the radio when it's a new song, and then again after the movie slowly snuck up on the present and was played again as an oldie. In like a way I've never seen, they found a way to lay down how much time had gone by and wrap up the story up beautifully. I'm sorry if none of that made sense, but I tried to explain it the best I could. Anyhow, this is what left me with a great impression of the movie after it was over.

Also, it wasn't a stupid "whodunit" type movie like it appeared to be.

8.5/10

For a few Dollars More

1st of all i wasn't really looking forward to watching this as i knew it was dubbed and this and this alone had really put me off watching any of the man with no name trilogy. But as this was the only one of the choices i hadn't seen i swollowed the bullet, pun intended , and decided to watch them all. So far i have watched A fistfull of dollars and For a fore More Dollars i will watch The Good, The Bad and The Ugly sometime in the coming week.

The dubbing did get on my nerves but for the most part it is pretty decent and only badly noticable when it is up close, once i had gotten past this there were 2 good films to be watched. First AFFOD which is a remake of Yojimbo, i have it but have not yet watched, and which was also remade into Last Man Standing with Bruce Willis. I knew this before watching so it was slightly ruined by knowing everything that was going to happen, it is nearly identical to Last Man Standing which i think is the better film. But Clint does have a lot of presence and the gun fights are pretty good a solid if unspectacular film.

6/10 AFFOD

I moved on to FAFDM the day after, today, now with the dubbing not bothering me as much it was much easier to watch as well as being a better film. It was helped by the dact Van Cleef was in it by giving it another dimension and much better acting. This one also had more of a story to it with revenge, backstabbing and robberies there is plenty to keep you entertained. It is pretty hard to review films like these which have so many actors being dubbed whihc makes it difficult to critique acting, the writing is up and down mostly just one liners that are ment to make Clint look cool and hard and for the most part they work. The gun scenes also vary wit some good shoot outs then ones where ya can see the gun is nowhere near aimed at where it hits and no make-up to show blood. Where this film, AFFOD, excel is in the music with the whistling tunes and especially the tune from the locket that was extremely catchy. Overall a very fun film with more of a story and better acting

7/10-FAFDM- 2 minutes to spare before i edited
