What's funny is that Caddyshack certainly has that reputation for being an 80s comedy classic, but I don't think I've ever met anyone who has said to be a fan of it. Even I found it to be pretty underwhelming, if Bill Murray wasn't in it, it would have been complete trash.

I watched Fast Times at Ridgemont High for the first time not long ago. I'm not sure if I laughed even once in it.

Good job, everyone. I'll have a new round up soon.

You were being brief, Nilade, so I'll give you a day to sign up for the new round if you want.

Schindler's List

Oskar Schindler is a business man who enlists Polish Jews as the workforce for his factory in the Krakow Ghetto during WWII. His reasons are for profit and to maintain good relations with the SS. When SS Officer Amon Goth arrives, liquidates the ghetto, and forms the concentration camp, Schindler starts to have a change of heart when he witnesses the bloodshed the Goth unleashes. He sets out to recruit a force of workers with the sole purpose of saving their lives.

Such a powerful movie. It saddens me to think that during the evolution of the Holocust, how accepting the Jews were to their inevitable fate only to the realize the horror of the finality. One great scene in particular is when they are loading the trains to move the Jews away from the concentration camps to Schindler's new location. This is to be the new factory Schindler sets up for "skillfull workers" with the intention of actually saving them from certain death. One of the trains carrying the women is accidentally redirected to another town away from the safety of Schindler's factory. Up until this point the gas chambers had only been talked about or hinted of off screen and, even though there was much bloodshed thoughout the movie, many Jews seemed accepting of their fate. It was this scene that struck a chord with me. The women were removed from the train, their hair cut, their clothes removed, and they were all ushered into the "showers", which was the ritual for the gas chambers as explained earlier in the movie. At that point, young and old alike, mothers and daughters, truly realized what their fate was to be. As they held each other crying, waiting for their fate, that is when the faucets game on and actual water came pouring down on them. The fear on their faces quickly became smiles of happiness. Such an intense scene well executed by Spielberg.

Liam Neeson was great to watch on screen (isn't he always?). His portrayel of Schindler was perfect. At first, impersonal and money motivated, but soon transformed into the reluctant savior of over 1100 Jews and, ultimately, a man on a selfless crusade. His final moments on screen really summed up the emotion of it all for me.

Ralph Fiennes stole many of the scenes of the movie. His portrayal of Goth was chilling. A man so seemingly casual and cool yet so ready to kill on a whim, at times for no purpose of all if not for the fact that he can. A man unaware of the fact that true evil exists within him. At one point Schindler questions his bloodlust and almost turns Goth to redemption with his explanation of "true power". Goth begins to pardon the petty annoyances of the Jews that before he would use as an excuse to kill them. A young Jewish boy cleans his tub the wrong way. Goth holds himself back and gently says, "I pardon you. You may go". After the boy leaves, Goth stares at himself in the mirror and looks at the residue of the tub on his fingers. At that point, he accepts the monster that he is as he takes his shotgun, walks over to the window, and shoots the poor kid in the back.

A brilliant, sad movie that caught the true horrors of the Holocust. One that needed to be made and Spielberg was the perfect man to make it. He brought us back to a time most have only read about in textbook and gave it face, as well as humanized both good and evil. A must-watch.

10/10
Sorry about the quick review last night. I was so tired, my eyes were literally dropping as I was typing it. I wanted to make it in by dealine though. I just got off of work and had time to edit and expand it. I am in for next round as well!

I disagree. Murray certainly is the best, but I also liked Dangerfield and Chase a lot as well. Same goes for the Judge. To each his own, though.

*sniff* You guys just keep hating these '80s gems. Phoebe Cates coming out of the pool? Sean Penn ordering a pizza in class or getting super high and hitting his head? I think it was the first look at high school that really displayed sex and whatnot in a humorous way and was the starting point for a lot of careers. Like I said though, comedy is extremely subjective so I'm never surprised when people don't like the same comedies as me. I like Dr. Strangelove and Dumb and Dumber, but don't like Blues Brothers or Super Troopers. It's just to each their own.

They both came out in the same year, so it's kind of a toss up but Fast Times was set in present day whereas Porky's was not.

Don't think I was upset about you being brief. I just meant I assumed you had forgotten to sign up for the next round.

I'm not saying I didn't enjoy Phoebe Cates (Or, um, Jennifer Jason Leigh's solid contribution), I'm saying it was a dumb and boring movie.

Oh, and to keep the 80s movie discussion going, I think "The Breakfast Club" is massively overrated.

Your witness.

I couldn't find "The Mists" at imdb. Could you locate it for me? (I've seen the second two, btw)
