Default Godzilla 2 on the way????

Hello folks

I was surfing around in wikipedia, when i looked up the american version of Godzilla and it says that a sequel IS in the works.... Here is the link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godzilla_%281998_film%29

I personally loved the american version, Emmerich rules.

I thought the first one sucked - but I also thought the series was salvageable. Much like The Hulk was. I think a sequel could be good as long as they learn from the mistakes of the first one.

It would be nice if Godzilla actually made it in to this one.

King Kong was enough giant beast for me. Godzilla's crass anyway.

But I do have to say that I loved "Godzilla" when I was little, its a really fun dumb b-movie. If there is a sequel, it will be a direct to DVD release. It did really bad with critics, it doesent have many fans and no one wants it. I cant think of any good reasons why a studio would give money to make another one. But Hollywood did give us "Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties" now didnt they.

Zilla, a monster based on the Godzilla incarnation in this movie, appears in the movie Godzilla: Final Wars, and is annihilated in short order by the "true" Godzilla in Sydney. The commander of the alien invasion remarks upon Zilla's destruction, "I knew that tuna-eating monster was useless." This could be taken as Toho getting back at Tristar for their treatment of Godzilla.

Star Jones is finished. She ain't as big as she used to be.

Now if Godzilla were true to the character terrorising Japan instead of the US with a bigger budget then we may have a winner.

I hope they don't make a sequel.
The first one was OK but nothing special - it doesn't need a sequel.

The Japanese can complain all they want, it's not like the Gojira sequels were award winners. (Funny how the travesty of the Japanese "King Kong" was never complained about by Americans.)

Let's face it, many of the Gojira non-Monster plots directly ripped off the Matrix and Alien movies. And lets not start with how boring the movies were to begin with. They're cool when you're 11, but has anyone gone back and "tried" watching them since? They're freeking aweful. I've caught some of the newer one's on a Sci-Fi marathon and find myself looking to see what else is on.

The American Godzilla was bad, but it is no worse than what the Japanese themselves have done to the francise over the years. If there are no monsters on the screen, the movies are complete garbage and in my opinion WORSE than the American version.

I didnt like first one, had great trailers and tag-line but it was a deeply mediocre film. Plus Matthew Broderik was a bad choice for a lead, he was cool in Ferris Bueller but hes 40 and now has no charisma. Plus the end with the eggs and babies was really really bad.

...and Dangermouse is right, the Japanese versions arnt great, they are just plain dull.

I dont wanna waste another 2 hours of my life watching a Godzilla 2.

The first was by no means a great film, but it got a much worse reputation than it deserved, it was not as bad as most made it out to be IMO. I would see a sequel because I have sucha soft spot for the first.

You're talking about the sequels, which everyone agrees were awful. The original Gojira is a sci-fi gem, with lots of Cold War political subtext. The American version is a steaming pile of tihs.

Sure, the Japanese sequels were cheesy and silly as hell, but at least their versions of Godzilla had personality; and they didn't spend 100+million on a movie about a giant iguana terrrorizing NYC and tried passing it off as Godzilla.
