Default Disabled kid gets booted from movie for laughing

OK, I looked around to see if anyone else has posted this, so if they have, sorry, I couldn't find it. So here's the scoop, a mentally disabled teen is taken to the movie by his mom (The Pink Panther) and he laughs excessively loud and disturbs several members in the audience. They the mom and son to leave because he can't keep the volume down. She gets offended because he's disabled and says it is unfair. That's the short story, if you want to read the whole story, here's one link:
http://www.gainesville.com/apps/pbcs.../APN/602280775

OK, so the point of this thread is to open discussion on whether or not the theater was justified in kicking him out.

My personal opinion is that they were because if she knew that he couldn't control himself and/or his volume levels then why should she be allowed to disturb the entire theater? Obviously it would be nice to take him to the movies sometimes, no questions there, but not at the expense of everyone around them. I personally think it is the most inconsiderate thing in the world when people have paid for a movie and other people want to talk on their cell phones, to their friends, out loud, or whatever and disrupt the movie experience. I think it was selfish of her NOT to call attention to the fact that he was annoying the sh** out of the other movie goers and just let everyone deal with it. That's pathetic IMO. I think I would have done the exact same thing had I been the manager of the theater. That's my opinion - what do others think?

Try to picture yourself in the theater. What do you think you would do? Just a hypothetical...

Hmmm, I didn't read the story, but it would seem only fair to everyone else that he didn't disturb the movie.

^ Yeah, like parents who bring little kids to PG-13 movies and the kids get scared, or people whose cellphones go off every few minutes or teenagers (which I am, but I don't act like an @$$hole at teh theater) who won't shut up for five seconds. It's really annoying. This is why I don't go to the movies that much anymore.

if it's a funny movie you are supposed to laugh.
It's not like he was standing and reciting the pledge of alliegance or doing something else that was not in the spirit of watching a funny movie.

Yeah, come to think of it. I would not have thrown him out. If it was a comedy and he was enjoying it THAT much, then fine. If people couldn't hear the movie, it wasn't the end of the world. Sure, they paid good money to see it, but come on. Its not the last chance that they will get to see it. At least it will come out on DVD someday. Yeah, I would have let the kid stay. But also, his mother should have maybe taken him out and explained to him that he's being a little too loud. That would have been a good move on her part.

It's different though if you have ever heard someone who is obnoxiously loud laughing. According to the article he kept laughing so others couldn't hear, even in the parts that weren't funny.

If he was causing a disturbance they had the right to do it.

Actually the article says "He also laughed at some parts that others didn't find so funny, she said."

Not that they weren't supposed to be funny.

In our town we used to have a guy who's laughter you could hear in a room of 500 people - any time he laughed you could always pick him out of the crowd. You know what we did when we put on funny plays?

We gave him a seat front and center. He was great.

Good for you, but this wasn't a show about him. Some people have the extremely boisterous laugh. If he was disturbing people, which obviously he was, they had every right to kick him out. I absolutely hate it when people are inconsiderate and disrupt the movie I paid to sit through. I think his mom is inconsiderate in this instance.

i think that it was wrong to kick this person out of the cinema. i know that it may have been a disturbance in the cinema to the other patrons, but still, you cant discriminate against some one just because they are not able bodied. i dont know what a better solution would have been, but i feel that kick them from the cinema is not the right option.

plus, i laugh at things that others dont find funny at the cinema. I never get kicked out.

Well they asked her to step outside.

Why didnt she just take her son with her and get control of him and take him back in the theater?

If she had just listened to the management in the first place the whole incident would of been invited.

Just as a note. It really pisses me off that Disabled people and whoever is with them get in free at my local theater. It just errg.

What makes this discrimination? They didn't single her out because her son was handicapped, they singled her out because her son was annoying everyone else. That's the basic problem today is everyone thinks that if someone offends a racial group, ethnic group, sexual orientation group, handicapped group, or whatever that it is "discrimination". There is nothing here that can be defined as "discrimination" simply because he happened to be handicapped. They would have done the exact same thing to someone who was completely able bodied. If they would have kicked him out simply because he was handicapped, then that is discrimination, but not because he was annoying and happened to be handicapped. I think it's so ridiculous how everyone has to walk on eggshells to be PC in society or someone will sue or run the the ACLU.

when i think about it logically, anyone who interrupts the audience excessively while watching a movie should be removed.

We have this notion that because someone is disabled that we should treat them with pity and give them leeway.

Think about it. If there was a baby crying in the cinema, would you want the mother to remove them? of course you would, because its annoying.

I know that sounds hartless but it's just the way you perceive different groups in society. A child is far more innocent than a disabled person, yet we'd rather remove the baby from the cinema than the disabled person.

Why did people around him care? It was "The Pink Panther." It's not like they actually lost any of the "plot" by hearing him laugh. They obviously suck as people to have decided to go pay $10 to see such a horrid movie in the first place. Him laughing and disrupting the movie for them is quite fair.

A baby crying or a cell phone ringing is an entirely different thing. This kid was actually responding to the movie.

What if someone is shouting things at the movie itself? Making comments and things like that? That's responding to the movie. The point is that there are appropriate levels of response, and acceptable levels of response. Apparently, his was not appropriate.
