Ok first of all, i'm not trying to say anything bad about the actual ROTJ here, i'm just asking purely hypothetical here.
I've just been thinking about this for a while now after i first heard it. How do you think ROTJ would have turned out if David Lynch had directed it? If you didnt know this then David Lynch turned down the offer to direct the movie. Instead he chose to direct Dune, based on the book series Dune. If you havent heard of David Lynch other movies (which are absolutely INSANE - in the words true meaning) then here is a little list of the best ones (in my opinion): Eraserhead The Elephant Man (nominated for 8 oscars) (imdb top250 list) Dune Blue Velvet (nominated for oscar) Twin Peaks (tv movie and tv series) (2 emmys) Wild at Heart (nominated for oscar) Lost Highway The Straight Story (imdb top250 list) Mulholland Drive (nominated for oscar) (imdb250 list) I added those things for those of you who dont know who Lynch is. As you might guess i'm a big fan of Lynch, but i'm not so sure how ROTJ would have turned out with him instead. I know Lucas would still have written it, but still - the director has some influence. So, what do you think?

It would of been just as good, if not better I think. ROTJ is my favorite in the series btw.

I can't help wonder how the ewoks would have been interpreted by Lynch.

Yeah, more or less the same here. ESB is the best directed of the the bunch I'd probably say, but the emotional power kinda makes ROTJ take the cake for me.

Well, one of the reasons Lynch didn't do it was because Star Wars was too much Lucas's baby. It's rumored that Lucas himself basically directed Return of the Jedi and used Richard Marquand as a sort of puppet. Either way, it's Lucas's vision and I highly doubt Lynch would've been given approval of the look of the Ewoks, etc.
It definitely would've been different if he was given freedom to do it.

I cant even start to imagine how the Ewoks would have turned out. Hehe. I must admit that the current ewoks really destroys the movie for me (partly).
