A lot of us grew up watching Richard Donner's medival film with chessy `80s music. It was playing today on HBO Family. I saw it and the music still bothers me. Although its still a good movie. And the funny thing about it is that the real love story was behind the scenes. This is of course the movie in which Richard and Lauren fell in love.

LADYHAWKE (7.5/10)

Rutger Hauer (THE HITCHER) rules and this is the only film otherthan SCARFACE that I can tolerate Michelle Phiffer in.

Director Donner (THE OMEN, SUPERMAN) directs the fantasy/adventure elements of the story with a steady eye and still manages to illicit real emotion from me in regards the love story at the centre of it all.

The script, based on a classic 1500 fairytale delivers laughs from well drawn charecters. Mathew Broderick charms any kinks out of his dialogue and all in all this is one I still enjoy.

The music works great as a stand alone piece of orchestraion but unfortunately grates and dates the film, reminding us constantly we are in an 80's adventure. (Unfortunately not in a good Cyndi Lauper/GOONIES way- also a Donner film)

Goonies was released in `85 like Ladyhawke. Good year for Donner, but `87 would be better with Lethal Weapon.

Nevermind, `85 was a great year for Donner. Two hit films and a wife!

I've never even heard of this one. I like Donner's films and he was pretty much on the top of his game around that time....i'll have to check it out.

The movie is good fun, but yes, the music is THAT bad. Makes it difficult to watch at times.

Ladyhawk is one of the best movies I've seen. I dont care if it has bad music. A lot of movies have bad music. It doesn't make them bad movies.

Maybe they could re release this on DvD with a different musical score, this would definately attract more interest in it. Im 35 and I have always liked this movie. I have some younger friends from my gaming group and Ive recommended this movie to them and they have all come back complaining about the music.

Do you have HBO Family? It's been playing non-stop all month. In fact, it was airing today. Checking my TV Guide it says that the next airing will be this Thursday at 3:15pm.

Not that it matters of anything, but today is Ladyhawke's 25th anniversary. The music is difficult to enjoy but if you can get past that you'll enjoy the movie.
