Default Doctor Who

Less than one week after the airing of the first episode in the new series of Doctor Who, Chris Eccleston (The Doctor) has announced he is quitting the show at the end of the first series. The search is on for the 10th Doctor!

Nah - he doesn't want to be type casted. And trust me - a £500,000 role is nothing short of excellent wages.

I bet Chris will be back for the Series 2 opening, for the regeneration.

Piper will probably stay, cos' she's got equal billing to Chris, and gets the same pay. HOWEVER, i think she'll end up as main billing.

Eccleston probally never wanted to hand aroung that long, plus Davis wouldn't mind getting a regeneration in early so younger viewers can get shown that concept within doctor who. I hope when releasing the dvds they do it in two types, a season boxset for new fans or none collectors and then in singel dvds like the others but because the new eps are standalone but a few per disk and use the current dvd packaging.

PS, DW pulled a fan fav by actually creating the website used in the show sorta like buffy http://www.whoisdoctorwho.co.uk/

Well in any case, I hope the next one stays around longer. I also wouldn't mind a more eccentric costume. not as corny as Colin Baker or Sylvester McCoy but something that sets him apart more.

They are making a 60 minute Christmas special episode to slot between the first and second series. Presumably this will include the regeneration, though word at the moment is that Chris will not be returning for the special.

Well if i could watch this show i would be pissed. But I live in America and i guess they think we should get to watch any Doctor Who with out having to purchase a DVD.

We have BBC America and no Doctor Who show ever comes on it. It's the most useless channel i have

Eccleston was doctor number 9 (the 8th regeneration). A number of episodes have said that time lords have only 12 regenerations (so 13 actors can play the part). So that leaves us with 4 more actors for the role. Of course it wouldn't be hard for the writers to come up with some excuse to go beyond that number (numerous ideas are suggested by the show itself in previous stories).

I thought that the doctor had 13 regenerations...but I guess I muddled it up with 13 people...It's a pity Eccleston quit, though I don't think he was quite the doctor we're looking for; I saw some pics of him as the doctor, and he just looked normal...I mean, he should at least look a little eccentric.

If the actors continuing short stints as the Doctor, I'm sure the Time Lords will somehow give him more regenerations. I just wish a good actor would play him for at least thre years. I understand that Tom Baker would have played him forever and was basically forced out. I liked him but it was time for a change when he left.

Chris Ecclestone was mind blowingly good in the acting in this. For instance (plot spoiler ish) when the tree creature says "I know where you are from now - I ran a scan. And I am so sorry. You shouldnt even exist"..

The acting as he broke down... Staggering range of the man. Very impressive. But then he was back to the manic savagely happy glee..

The writing of his character appears to be really spot on, and well observed - the dichotomy between how people put on a facade of forced cheeriness when they are hollow.

And he allowed people to die in a savage manner... But then his heart melted in other moments and he became totally child like!

And the effects arent too bad at all - never mind for a BBC programme... actually not too bad at all full stop!

I can see how this role could be a mill stone.

I am glad he got the part, and only sad he didnt want to stay longer.

Each episode seems to get a bit better.

Im a bit pissed off with the interior of the tardis - its partly organic now and appears to be powered with a bicycle pump (yeah you know what I mean - guys who saw this bit.. but I reckon there is some acid wit and very funny moments here and there. Kind of like a more serious hitch hikers guide...

Overall.. a very welcome return - not to form - just return, because it knocks the old ones into a cocked hat big style.

Billie has too many teeth though and scares me. And I havent had a cliff hanger ending yet, and Im not hiding behind my sofa like millions did when they watched it as a kid.

Apart from that... THUMBS UP

I thought the bit where Eccleston wept was actually very touching too, considering it was a man talking to a tree on board a space station.
Its sad that he quit, he seems so far to be a great choice.
I bet the next doctor is Richard E Grant.
I know hes playing a baddie at some point in this series but how about Simon Pegg?

I know a lot of people that didn't like the first eppisode of the new Dr Who so didn't watch the 2nd and I kinda agree with them, it wasn't the best itroduction to the new Dr Who but the 2nd eppisode was really good. I don't know the actors names of past Dr's so I can't say who my favourite is but Eccleston was better than some of the older ones.

Yeh the first episode didnt do the series any favours IMO, the second was 10 times better. You know how small minded some people are, "oh the first one wasnt great, im NOT watching that again"
They probaly turned over to watch some mind numbing crap like Ant and Dec.

Actually the second doctor was Patrick Troughton, not Richard. I think the first four doctors were the best.
