Default The Chronicles of Riddick Director's Cut

Does anyone have this yet. I really liked the movie, and I want to know it if the directors cut is worth getting

I'm getting it today. But I won't be able to watch it until late tonight. I really hope that the DVD sales spawn the last two sequels, because I am very anxious to see how this story turns out.

I'm still not sure if I want to buy it. Might rent it to watch it again before making my mind.

i rented it today and watched it i liked it alot even theres only 15 minutes added to the film there is a good amount to help make it a better movie it as for part of the movie goes into a lil bit in depth of ridd-ick charecter as well plus some more action when he's fighting the necromongers on the planet surface i wanted to rent it first to see if it was worth a purchase and once i get the money i will deffintly pick this up id give the directors cut version of the movie an 8/10 i have yet to see the bonus featurs though

I read comingsoons review on it, and it sounds like the theatrical cut is better. They said they can see why the extra scenes were left out of the official cut. I still might consider getting the directors cut though.

Was this movie any good? It looked dumb. But trailers can be misleading. Do I need to see Pitch Black firsT?

I bought the film today and got the Director's Cut. You might as well just get the dircetor's cut. It's not like it cost any different.

I rented the Directors cut, and it is a better film than the original. the additions really help the story. I will pick this up tomorrow.

The Chronicles of Riddick (Unrated Director's Cut)

Some films seem to dominate the film industry during some years...

2002: The Year of Spider-Man

2003: The Year of the Matrix

2004: The Year of PG-13 Sequels to R-Rated Movies

Think about it, we've had three alone this year. It kicked off with the not as bad as it's reputation Whole Ten Yards, followed by the Chronicles of Riddick (which I'm reviewing right now), and ended with the entertaining but could have been better AVP: Alien vs. Predator. David Twohy and Paul WS Anderson, directors of Riddick and AVP, both promised Director's Cuts when the films got to DVD so we can see their original, un-toned down version. And here we are. The DC of Riddick has finally arrived at long last.

Let me start by saying that out of all three of these PG-13 sequels, Riddick was easily the best. This was obvious even when I was viewing the PG-13 cut.

I liked Pitch Black. I thought it was what one of those TV movies they show on the Sci-Fi channel could be if actual effort and intelegence was put forth. When I first heard of David Twohy's hopeful followup trilogy, I thought it sounded interesting. I'd definatly check it out. But as time went on and I found out more and more about the first instalment, I found myself getting more and more hyped. Pretty soon, it was damn near the top of my most anticipated films of 2004 list. Sure, I was disappointed with the PG-13 rating it eventually got, but I'm not one to judge before I see it.

It was finally released and I was there opening day. I was completly blown away. Toned down? Probably. But this movie felt like Riddick, and that's all that mattered to me. David Twohy's direction is, as usual, outstanding. The pace that this guy gives his films is amazing. It's not too fast, not too slow, but perfect. And the editing job will really catch your eye with all the creative cuts. The story is very creative, although a little by the book. After all, we got a similar story two years ago with the Scorpion King
Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
Right down to the ending.
But this movie presented it's story with much less cheese than SK did. And the special effects are easily the best of the year. I would have aknowledged the Day After Tomarrow with this, if it weren't for thos damn wolves.

The directors cut adds 15 minutes of new footage. It's been months since I saw the PG-13 cut, so I'll just list what stuck out the most, which would be several scenes where Riddick dreams of his home world Furya. I'm not sure if I like these. They slow down the action quite a bit, but they are informative about Riddick's character. There's also an early glimpse of Kyra toward the begining of the film where she is shoved into a cage. Doesn't add anything, but it's nice to see her earlier in the movie, especially once you know that this is Jack from Pitch Black. The last most noticable difference is just an added line.
Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
When Riddick takes back his soul from Lord Marshal, he shouts out "F*** YOU!"
This is a very cool addition for some reason. I just really liked it. However I do suspect that the line was taken directly from Pitch Black from when Riddick has the gun pointed at Johns. The delivery is exactly the same.

If the Matrix is my Star Wars, then the Chronicles of Riddick has to be my Lord of the Rings. Nothing against both series, I like both (well, I would like LOTR a lot more is Fellowship of the Ring wasn't so goddamn boring), it's just while I watch this movie, I feel like it was made specificly for me. That's a feeling I rarely get. Here's to the next two sequels. If there is a god, they'll get made.

Damn, if I'd read that review earlier, I might have changed my decision to get it yesterday. Best Buy was giving away a special bonus disc with their copies.

Make sure you look closely at the package. It's slightly different than the copies without the Best Buy disc. They didn't put stickers on the box this time, instead they changed the packaging. Also, the Director's cut is on sale and the theatrical isn't.

By the way, since we all seem to be Riddick fans, how is Dark Fury? It's got about a ten dollar price tag at Best Buy, but I'm having trouble working up the nerve to buy a half hour DVD, even if it is that cheap. That and Matriculated was hands down my least favorite Animatrix short.

I'll probably end up getting it anyway, but just wanted to hear some opinions.

I read what the changes were, but can anyone tell me this:

Was the editing different in the Unrated Version, esp speaking of the FIGHT SCENES? I saw the Unrated Veriosn the other day and couldn't tell if the editing (especially the FIGHT SCENES) was different then in the theater version. I assummed the Unrated Version would mean the editing of the fight scenes would not be as choppy and fast, because they could show more. In the theater version I almost got a headache at times, but couldn't tell the difference with the Unrated Version. So, was their editing changes made to the Fight Scenes (that made them more enjoyable and easier on the eyes)?

The editing is still choppy (thats the riddick style) But more is shown, like for example the shottout in the prison, that was lenghtened, and so was the fight between riddick, keira vs. the neco's.
