Exclamation The ****ing Team America:World Police Review Thread

Rolling Stone doesn't lie!

This is the film to see this fall. There are a few spoilers, mostly storywise no jokes which is why you see a comedy.

Opening in a beautfiul Paris, France set the laughs go right until the end of the credits. Matt, Trey and everyone else involved made a ****ing great movie. An American comedy classic. Yes the humour involves jokes about sucking ***** and other lewd stuff but there is some great scenes that don't involve that. The songs here while brief still are well done and hilarious. The corny lines and action scenes taken from other films just leave a big smirk on your face, with you wanting to see more.

Gary, Joe, Chris, Lisa and Sarah makeup the movie character cliches that is Team America. They're helped by their dumb sounding computer I.N.T.E.L.L.I.G.E.N.C.E. and sliding around leader Spottswoode, who always seems to have a drink in his hand.

Also providing scenes of laughter are those in FAG (Film Actors Guild) - lead by "the greatest actor ever" Alec Baldwin. He's the only thing that I have to say was the part that bothered me. Trey and Matt said the real Alec wanted to voice himself but they decieded not to. I can tell you the movie would be even funnier if you heard the real Alec Baldwin saying these things.
But Maurice LaMarche does a good enough job, but that's the only flaw in the film, not using the real Baldwin.

Kim Jong Il puts many film evil dooers to shame. He's a lonely man and plans to turn all countries into third world countries. Team America of course to the rescue, much to the disgust of FAG. We've seen everything in this film (well most stuff) a hundred times but it works together and is ****ing funny. The trailer/promos didn't give all the great scenes away either. Probably because they couldn't show them. Larry David was right when he said you double your laughs with a [f-word].

The Sex Scene is brief and if a parent is with you so can get in... you might feel uncomfortable or hold back on the laughing. It was sooo unerotic but still it features a few Kama Sutra moves. Definitely the funniest part of the movie.

When I viewed the trailer on CS!, I thought it was genuis. After seeing the film
I still stand by my view. Go see Team America, you'll never look at puppets the same again.

I think I smiled a few times, but this film pulls a lot of punches, compared to some of the ideas/scenes originally planned. Unfortunately, any scenes that were planned to spoof Dubya or other Whtie house folks was cut; as were a number of other things. the only thing I felt was kind of edgy was the Rent spoof, I also reallly liked the Kim Jon II palace set design...having actual sharks was genuis. The artistry and craft is amazing in the film, with all the little set details. And I got every single action cliche they spoof, it just didn't have the punch that South Park had for me when I first saw it. BRave move to go with wooden marrionettes, ala 60's thunderbirds tho.

It comes in fourth out of the five films by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, but it's still funny. The reason some might be tripped up is that, unlike, say, South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut, there isn't so much of a message. This is just a comedy, through and through, and on that level, it succeeds.

There's about a 15-minute dry spot in the middle, but the movie recovers. Overall, still very funny - the opening had me dying.

Review: Team America: World Police

http://www.browntownjohnny.com/index.php

Big Budget! Big Money! Big Action! Hot Sex Scenes! PUPPETS!.......**** yeah..Puppets on strings that talk like the guys from South Park. "Team America" is created by SP guys Trey Parker and Matt Stone, is the best 'potty mouthed' movie since John Waters' "A Dirty Shame" (2 weeks ago). It also is the best comedy to come along in a very long time for so many reasons. A dead -on parody of Gerry Anderson's 60's classic shows like " Thunderbirds are Go" and "Fireball XL5", a cheesy but brilliant collection of fantasy action with marionettes. "Team America" is also a sharp, hateful, and pointed attack on Hollywood action movies. **** Michael Bay and Jerry Bruckheimer! **** yeah! They deserve it.

With a top team of set designers, puppet makers (Choido Brothers did "Killer Klowns from Outer Space"), and photography (Matrix guy Bill Pope), Stone and Parker have a real fun time making fun of big budget slop like ' Top Gun' and 'The Rock' along with the trimmings (country artists doing 'feel good to be American' pap, bad gay Broadway, montage 'workout' scenes, stupid actors who may be homosexual). The other end is attacking 'liberal' actors who belong to the "Film Actors Guild" (F.A.G. members-Clooney-Hunt-Baldwin-Penn-Robbins and Sarandon). All this and musical numbers like "The Whole World Has Aids" "Freedom Has A Price...a buck .05" and the theme song "America..**** Yeah!".

The story is about a police action team of good looking puppets who are out to stop terror across the globe. They will stop at nothing to kill them, even blowing up the Eiffel Tower and The Great Pyramids. Evil Korean Leader Kim Jung Il is fronting world terror, he is now the target of Team America but they need to train a new member named Gary Johnston (the worlds greatest actor). Team Honcho Spottswood (a jab at hack director Roger Spotteswood) entrusts Gary with the hard task (and will accept a blowjob to insure his loyalty). Fellow team guys and gals have strong feelings about each other (with good puppet ****ing). They all are now in danger and Gary can save them from a little Korean dictator that sings sometimes.

I thought the puppet joke got silly after the first half (no need for a sequel) and some of the jokes are easy laughs (the best one is a puke joke). The Michael Moore joke was dumb, and the awful crass tasteless language gets stupid after a while. But the script is on target (mostly) and it is truly original. Cool Movie for the new millennium. BTJ says "Enjoy..**** yeah!"

Default Funniest movie this year

I can't remember the last movie that made me laugh this hard. Exemplified perfectly everything that annoys me about hollywood. Can't wait to see it again. Just perfect. Also, the voices that Phil Hendrie provided were great!

I'll write a full review tomorrow, but, I'll be honest here.......... I was a little disappointed by it. Don't get me wrong, some parts of it were hilarious (the first 15 minutes had me in tears almost), but, some of them went on a little too long (
Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
i.e. the vomit and sex scenes
). I'll think about it some more over night, but, if I had to give it a score right now....

7/10

It was immature, offensive, digusting and the funniest film of 2004, so far. If you are a fan of South Park(as I am), you'll likely enjoy it. However, if there was ever a film not made for everyone, it is this film.

It has been a while since I laughed so hard at the theatre. The vomit scene almost made me piss myself. I give it 8/10.

Thumbs up 'Team America', F--- Yeah!

Released October 15th, 2004

Director: Trey Parker, Matt Stone

Starring: Trey Parker, Elle Russ, Stanley G. Sawicki, Matt Stone

Premise: Team America, an international police force dedicated to maintaining global stability, learns that a power hungry dictator is brokering weapons of mass destruction to terrorists. The heroes embark upon a harrowing mission to save the world. To infiltrate the terrorist network, Team America recruits Gary Johnston, a rising star on Broadway, to go undercover. Although initially reluctant to sacrifice his promising career, Gary realizes that his acting gift is needed for a higher cause. With the help of fellow Team America members, Chris, Sarah, Lisa, Joe and Spottswoode, Gary slips into an arms dealer's hideout where he discovers that the terrorists' plot has already begun to unfold. From the pyramids of Cairo to the Panama Canal and the finally to the palace of power-mad dictator, Kim Jong II, Team America criss-crosses the globe on a desperate mission to preserve the very fabric of civilization.

Any film that has the White House publicly denouncing it has to be big, doesn’t it? Leave it up to Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the creators of the consistently irrelevant South Park series on Comedy Central, to set off not only the radical politically-oriented activists of Hollywood, specifically Sean Penn who wrote an op-ed basically saying “f--- you” the film’s creators, but the current administration at well. Though one has to agree with the White House’s statement that the current war on terrorism is far from what one would call a comical matter, perhaps they were more irked about the look-alike of Bush in the film’s poster. Whether they like to admit or not, many view President Bush this way, whether it be his supporter or detractors, and with Election Day less then three weeks away, perhaps its best if we all take some time off, relax, and divert our minds away from the current political climate if only for two hours ....

I saw the sneak preview last Saturday, and the whole experience in the theater was one of the best I've had in a very long time. That sex scene was instant classic--if that's what made it in the final cut, I would hate to see what was NC-17 material (who am I kidding? Bring on the unrated DVD!!!)

Sure sometimes the over-use of swearing gets old, and there weren't enough funny spoken moments, not as many as were in South Park. But there was definitely enough in between to make it one of the funniest movies I've seen in a very long time!

I totally plan on seeing it again to see what was cut out (I hate that sneak previews do that), and I'm sure it'll be just as great the second time around.

I can even see it now at the Oscars next year (hehe): best song - Kim Jong Il for "I'm so Ronery"
