they actually might be my favorite of all the English bands. They took Rock n Roll, and rather than just trying to immitate(like the Stones), they took it to another level, but its still rythem and Blues(unlike the WHo, Beatles, Floyd, etc. who were trying to make rock operas and other bull crap.)

uhh...I don't think the word crap should be associated in any way with those bands, don't know what you're going for there?

Led Zeppelin took rock to an all new level and no one else has really even come close to doing what they did. I don't know if I've ever heard a song from them I really didn't like. Physical Graffiti probably being my favorite album.

Well...alright I have some time.

There are thousands of bands and they would all be the same stuff (mostly crap) if it wasn't for a few exceptional bands to come out along the way. First on the "bull crap list" was The Beatles. Just about every album of theirs was a step forward for music and showed us what can be done in albums. It doesn't have to be one 3 minute song after another but "chapters" can be made into a story giving music a whole new outlook. With Sgt Pepper they took the first step to a rock opera by giving the album a beginning and an ending as if the album was a show. They had longer songs and had some go smoothly into the next one with a sound bridge, if it was for experimenting like this, we'd still have those damn short pop songs (unless you only like those) and probably wouldn't have songs like Stairway to Heaven, Bohemian Rhapsody, and so on.

I was orignally planning to argue the purpose of The Who and Pink Floyd's rock operas but I think that settles it with The Beatles. I'm just not sure how anyone could not like masterpiece albums such as Tommy and Dark Side of the Moon. It's like only enjoying Tv skits and not watching whole movies, you can enjoy music on a whole new level.

The whole purpose of rock music (or perhaps all music, at least it used to be) is to convey emotion and feeling through the words, music, and changes in mood. How can that be done in short little songs about some guy getting dumped?

Yeah ok I think I'll stop my rant there.

My friends always say that I live in the past when they hear my music, but you gotta admit that almost every rock band nowadays tells of how a guys girlfriend broke up with him and how hes depressed. That's it. Besides, there aren't any new bands that are nearly as good as ones in the past

Don't you mean "The Band Formerly Known as Queen"?

Love and Pain have been the cornerstone of virtually every song ever written.

When it's not, stand back, 'cause its gonna get weird.
