I didn't even know this was being made into a feature length movie!

All of the main writers are tackling it right now, so it's slowly underway.

Just because something is confirmed doesn't mean it happens instantly. For more than 5 years we've known there would be a Simpsons movie, but the recent surge in info was from the fact that Matt Groening said they had people working on it now.

The movie, as far as I know, is still not scheduled to show up until after the animated series ends.

As I said in other threads on this movie, the movie is only justified if it's not just a two-hour episode. The movie has to explore the nature of being a movie with the characters and the plots. Otherwise, don't make it.

Thats true, a two hour episode would be horrible. But could the simpsons writers create something with a plot, character development, and pacing to warrant a reason for a simpsons movie? Making money is the obvious reason, but im not in on that so its all about the quality to me.

To me, thats the difference with TV shows and Movies. A tv show to me is a short story, that can get away without some of the vital elements that a full length story(or movie) would be dead without.

But still, South park pulled it off beautifully. I have faith the Simpsons won't let us down.

I mentioned this before, but what I'd really like to see would be a Simpsons 1 hour special, on TV, before the series ends. they could make it like a CSI or Sopranos or just a bunch of those 1 hour shows, but still, it'd be awesome to see...

The correct answer is no. No they cant. At least not anymore, they cant even create enough plot and character to warrant another episode, let alone another season, or even a full length feature. Let it die. The show used to be perfection, or close to it. Now it is unbearable.

Nah, it's still pretty good. In alot of ways, its still the best show on TV.

I want this to be the final thing for the Simpsons, and I hope it is good...Sort of go out on a high note.

Not true. That's the whole point -- maybe the writers have begun to run out of ideas that fit onto their 4:3, 60-minute canvas, but hopefully the world of 2.35:1, 110 minute, bigger-budget arena will allow for new places for the writers to go.

Personally, I still think The Simpsons is one of the funniest shows on TV.

As for the movie being the finale -- yes. Movies should be the end of the road. But I am not opposed to a trilogy or something, if the filmmakers have a reason (but no more than three films).

I totally agree, go out with a bang.

Also, in respect to people saying it's lost it over the last 3 years, I remember a time when I thought the new episodes just weren't that funny anymore. I'd watch them and not be all that impressed. It didn't have that Simpsons classic humour. Then years later, I'd watch the repeats and an episode I remember watching the 1st time and not thinking was that funny ended up putting me in stitches. It's strange, but simpsons is a show that almost gets better with age. I try not to watch the mew ones too often, I catch them when I do, but I prefer to catch them on syndicate. It seems they breathe better as repeats, which is great cuz it means the simpsons family will be around for a long time to come. It's easily become the "Looney Toons" of our generation....

but the worst thing about making a tv program into a movie is that the story lines are more or less similar " something horrible is happening in springfeild and its up to the SIMPSONS to save the day"

I'm looking forward to this. I give it a 50% chance of being awesome and a fitting end to the ongoing Simpsons 'saga' if you will. But then the other 50% says it will suck.

Until I see the storyline I'm trying not to judge.

I would guess they would probably find some of The Simpsons best writers for this project, so I'd tilt it more 70-30 in favor of the movie being awesome...
