Default Movie Studio That Puts Out The Worst Dvd Releases

i have heard some people mention certain film studios, like paramount, that don't put much special features on their dvds. so i was wandering what is people's opinion as to which, movie stuido puts out the worst dvd releases. i don't mean which film studio puts out the worst movies, i mean which film studio doesn't put a lot of working into putting special features, or who maybe includes the worst cases. i think the worst dvd editions are from the wb, because they include those terrible snapper cases.

WB has the worse dvd cases. They are the soft cover dvd cases. Cant stand them. I was happy to see they changed it for matrix reloaded and terminator 3.

Snap cases suck, but Paramount does put out the worst DVDs. The features are usually just a Theatrical Trailer.

Nowadays, though, they don't even do that.

wb followed very closely by paramount.

The best is usually New Line, followed by Disney/Pixar, and maybe even Miramax.

They rarely disappoint.

New Line is sort of an iffy thing. If they want to go all-out, they do, and their Lord of the Rings and other Platinum Series releases are fantastic.

Fox also does a good job with their 2-disc sets, with lots of interesting extras.

Miramax loses a lot of points in my book, because their contrast is worse than New Line. Their bare discs are totally bare, with the trailer seeming to be sort of an every other basis.

MGM, though, seems to make the best upgrades, at least -- when an MGM SE hits, it just seems to be fantastic. I just love the MGM discs, they haven't disappointed me on an SE yet. I would love to see more movies get the MGM SE treatment (Bill and Ted, an even better SpaceBalls disc maybe, a shot is misframed on mine for some reason, the Fish Called Wanda disc that's only available in Britain right now...)

While I agree that New Line does in fact release good versions of all their movie (i.e. Their Platinum Series), the major thing I'm pissed about is WHY THE HECK DO THEY HAVE TO WAIT TILL JANUARY (AFTER CHRISTMAS) TO RELEASE 'FREDDY VS. JASON'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean, that would of been one Christmas present I would of been looking extremely forward to. That's just bad timing right there.

My guess is not many people are going to buy a horror movie for someone for x-mas. But all the people that want it will have money from x-mas to go buy it. I cant wait for this movie to come out on dvd.

I've got a few WB cardboard cases and the most annoying thing is that the other DVDs to the left and right of them on the shelf, when you put them in, get caught on the bit of plastic that runs around the edge of the cardboard cases! I've already had one CB case broken like that.

Hey, hey, hey! Check this out:

Unlike the T3 and Reloaded releases, which didn't say anything to me, Matchstick Men is 1 disc. But it's in a keep case! Maybe Warner has actually heard our complaints...

To Faithless Eye...I know what you mean...

I have my shelf alphabetical, and there's a disc in between two of the snap cases, and I've dented it a few times on accident...

Us lucky UK peeps don't get snap-paper cases anymore.

Basically, all the DVDs that were snappers (and popular) got a re-working in a AMARAY case - which is the one we love.

And what was even better was the fact i could return my sealed snapper cased "The Matrix" and get £15 quid back (i bought it in May and had the reciept). I then went a week later and bought the amaray version of £6. Cheap!

WB sell re-releases really cheap.

Artisan blows. They'll occasionallt release a good DVD, but most of their stuff is horrible.

I'm fine with Paramount. Most of their stuff I've seen have excellent transfers and these days their movies are getting decent extras.

Bleh. Their movies are just more contrasted. Why does The Core get a "Special Collector's Edition" (with the same amount of features as a general SE at any other studio) when classics like Better Off Dead doesn't even warrant the trailer? There's an SE for other 1980's teen comedies like Dead, look at MGM's The Sure Thing, for instance...

As long as Paramount's most fleshed out DVD is the original Tomb Raider...IMO, they're doing a weak job.

come on Paramount is far and away the very worst.

Warner Bros. has been puting out hig quality DISCS since the begining. Don't take Superman, The Perfect Storm, and The Matrix for granted. We might not even have these big SE if it weren't for WB. They did relese a lot bare boned in the early days but they've been putting out reissues like mad lately. So what if the boxes suck.

MGM just seems bad since they don't have very many movies worth getting lately. But when they put thier minds to it they really kick ass.

How can y'all even mention New Line in this. Have they ever released any significant Bare Bones discs?

Paramount on the other hand rarelyreleases a special edition of a catalouge title and the new film releses are rarely anything special.

Universal is okey, but they've been screwing up a lot lately. However anyone who supports the criterion collection as mutch as them is alright by me.

Really though Paramount and MGM should licence a bunch of thier titles to criterion, and Warner should re-do thier Kubrick titles.

This makes some sense... i mean i know i get cash on Christmas... thats how im going to be getting the dvd... if it came out before Christmas i porobably would have to scrounge up some cash barely getting it or ending up getting it for Christmas... i think its fine coming out Jan. 6th.

The WB's SEs suck. Maybe some of their classic film releases are better, like the Amadeus, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and Casablanca (which...I think are all Warner Bros.), but their discs are pretty lame. The Matrix discs suck, except for picture -- HBO Specials are not documentaries. They are promotional fluff crap, and not only that, but it's a dumb corporate synergy thing because Warner owns HBO.

Thumbs down on Warner. They have some good discs, but they need better documentaries, and more audio commentaries.

I'm not a huge fan of WBs cases nor am I a fan of Paramonunt's extra features. Never anything overly exciting. The Indy trilogy was good though.

Universal and Fox put out the best DVDs in my opinion.

What is so bad about MGM's DVDs? I think they are the best available when it comes to SEs. Like most studios, they have a terrible contrast -- other discs come with a trailer, but I notice that even on a lot of MGM's catalog discs, they try to find more stuff than they have to -- many have the EPK and some even have a few deleted scenes and a commentary -- way more than any other studio's catalog releases carry.

Yeah, I think MGM has been doing an exceptional job with their SEs.
