Default Lost in LaMancha

Calling all filmstudents and buffs! This is a gem of a movie about filmmaking gone bad. You will laugh and feel bad at the same time!

Lost in LaMancha follows the visionary director Terry Gilliam as he fights to bring his vision of Don Quixote to the big screen. Let me tell you that what is shown is beautifull! The script calls for Johnny Depp's character to be filming a commercial involving Quixote and travels back in time, only to become Quixote's squire! Awesome! LaMancha progresses like a behind the scenes doc, you see great costumes, sets, and statues being built. Gilliam is constantly on edge, the cast has problems, NATO ruins the takes, flash flooding-anything that can go wrong, does. I was just fascinated. Depp is cool as allways and seeing Gilliam go crazy is great. It really is too bad this film didn't get finished, but apparently he's trying again. 8/10

A note, this movie may not be enjoyed as much for those people that don't like documentaries, as it does run pretty long.

As for the DVD, it's great. 2 discs are devoted, with Python-esque menus, more IFC documentaries, deleted scenes, the works. 9/10

P.S. Did you know that Orson Welles(the man!) also tried to film a movie about Quixote and failed!

Thumbs up

Such a nice topic and no replies.... OK, i can't resist....

I've seen the film (UK disc). As the tagline goes, it's an UN-making of. The movie doesn't exist (yet?).

It's "great" to see how an ambitious movie project turns "gaga". It's a very honest documentary. About a film that doesn't exist. Anyhow.... based on the few shots Gilliam was able to pull off, I think it would have been a great movie.

Too bad, the production went the way it did.... One thing really got me - the visuals. Always like this when Terry Gilliam grabs a Cam *fg* I WANNA SEE THAT MOVIE! I hope Gilliam gets a second chance on it and "LOST IN LA MANCHA" isn't the last word on the subject....
