I'm just looking forward to getting into the Star Wars universe again with new writers and directors. Wish 2015 was already here, although I'm not optimistic about that date.

Actually, those were never confirmed. In fact, they said only ideas were being tossed around.

I'm sure you're not but I can't say I feel the same. I'm kind of 50/50 on the spin-off idea as it is, so I wouldn't completely describe myself as looking forward to them. A new trilogy, however, is a much more exciting prospect. I've never read any of the EU stuff and since much of it might be contradicted anyway, I'm interested in knowing how the SW Universe has progressed POST-ROTJ.

As long as we get good and diverse Star Wars movie I wouldn't mind if we get one every year for the remainder of the decade.

I don't know why people are so down about the spin-offs. This is the same thing they did with the Marvel characters, but kind of in reverse order. That's worked pretty well.

Personally, I've yet to love any of Marvel Studios output. I mean I (sort of) liked Iron Man 1 & 2 and Thor was pretty good. The rest of the Pre-Avengers films, however, were lackluster and they all felt like extended trailers for The Avengers (which I thought was just pretty decent). This is what worries me about Star Wars spin-off: They'll just feel like extended previews for the main films or, even worse, simple cash-ins.

Aww thanks Beanie. You're such a chipper little source of inspiration. Tell your mom to give you another scratch-n-sniff for your backpack for being so kind.

Interesting rumors - although this is way too early, but still fun to consider:

http://www.latinospost.com/articles/...tt-rumored.htm

Quote:
'Star Wars Episode 7' News Update: Joseph Gordon-Levitt Rumored to Be Han Solo; Plot Will Not Be Based Off Other Source Material

Joseph Gordon-Levitt may play Han Solo in the new "Star Wars Episode 7" Film.

According to the Digital Spy "The Dark Knight Rises" actor could play Han Solo in a standalone movie on the character and in Episode 7.

The rumor comes after E! Online revealed that Disney said the film "will be based on an original story-in other words, not from any of the many books, comics or graphic novels that have supplemented the sweeping story."

Gordon-Levitt has yet to confirm or make a statement about the rumors. However other actors rumored to play Solo include Nathan Fillion, James Franco, Tom Hardy and Ryan Gosling.

Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill are also rumored to star in the film after franchise creator George Lucas stated they would return. Billy Dee Williams and Anthony Daniels have also shown interest in reprising their role but have not been approached.

"Star wars Episode 7" is currently in pre-production with J.J Abrams attached to direct and set to shoot in the early part of 2014. The production team has recently revealed that they will shoot in UK; Scotland will be one of the major points of interest. Location scouts stated ""Location bosses feel Scotland possesses stunning scenery perfect for movie backdrops. They will look great on the big screen and the rock formations will replicate the perception of mountainous planets. It will be the first time Star Wars has ever been shot north of the border."

Abrams also announced that composer John Williams would likely return to score the iconic series; he also hinted that he may be collaborating with Lucas on the new film.

Kathleen Kennedy is on board to produce the film while Academy Award winner Michael Arndt will write the script.

"Star Wars Episode 7" will be released it in 2015 by Disney.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is one of my current favorite actors, but that would just be poor casting. As would James Franco of course.

If the rumors have any truth to them, then that means Episode 7 will take place shortly after the original trilogy instead of decades later as most expected.

Brad Bird on turning down Episode 7:

http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=104383

"They did come to me. But the problem was, the schedule they had in mind made it impossible to do…unless I dropped Tomorrowland. And I was just really deeply into this film at that point. It’s easy to say, “Just put it on hold.” But you’re moving now; you don’t know if you’re going to be able to move later. Maybe it’s true of filmmakers like Cameron or Spielberg, but I have to act on momentum. We had reached a critical mass where it would’ve thrown the furniture around from the train stopping. I really want to see this movie. I love the Star Wars films, and I can’t wait to see what J.J. does, but it meant I’d have to shut down one dream to participate in another. I feel like [with Tomorrowland] we’re making something that’s really special and unique."

Not sure if this has been posted yet or not, but thought it was interesting:

Michael Arndt Reveals How Star Wars Episode VII Fits Into Existing Continuity
STUBBY THE ROCKET

Though Michael Arndt has previously been silent about the story for the much anticipated Star Wars sequel, at a recent press conference the Oscar-winning screenwriter let slip exactly how Star Wars Episode VII fits into the continuity of the existing films and expanded universe media. Possible massive spoilers below. You’ve been warned!

Speaking at a press junket for a special Tokyo-only IMAX 3D edition of Toy Story 3, Arndt had this to say about his approach to writing the new Star Wars film:

“I’m actually writing the script in such a way that it [Episode VII] will contradict the continuity and events of all the existing Star Wars films.”

When pressed for reasons why he is deliberately making the story inconsistent with previous installments of the mega-popular franchise, Arndt amiably replied that he is “just trying to be true to the spirit of Star Wars.”

“I really have big shoes to fill,” the screenwriter continued, “And I figured the only way to do justice to Star Wars—the way George Lucas would have wanted it—is to make sure nothing really matches up with anything we’ve seen before. I mean, I think most people were let down by the prequels and I hear that. They really didn’t go far enough.”

While some speculation swirled that Arndt was implying a kind of alternate-universe reboot in the same manner as 2009’s Star Trek, he was quick to quash those concerns. “It’s not going to be any kind of retcon. Think of it more as a jumping-on point for people who aren't familiar with Star Wars.”

A fan and scholar of the original Star Wars trilogy, Arndt reveled in several plot points from the existing films which he called “brilliant examples of inconsistency.” When asked to list some of his favorite moments in the original films Arndt gave a laundry list including: How it makes no sense in Return of the Jedi that the Empire gives up just because the Death Star is blown up. From A New Hope, the notion that Red 6 (Porkins!) dies in the first Death Star Battle, only to have someone say “Red 6” a few minutes and later and have him respond. And when talking about the Empire Strikes Back, Arndt became giddy, listing all of his favorite aspects:

“I mean how much time passes between them leaving Hoth and getting to Cloud City? No one knows. It’s wonderfully vague! The lessons Yoda teaches Luke about not helping people are dubious and kind of not true! Not to mention Vader not recognizing Force powers in Leia? And don’t get me started about the baffling contradiction that the energy shield on Hoth is something people can walk underneath and that somehow the Rebels have an awesome ion cannon that can shoot through the energy shield? Why wouldn’t they just use that technology all the time?! The cacophony of illogic that is The Empire Strikes Back is just beautiful. Everyone says it’s such a perfect film, and they’re right, because perfect movies are always lacking that one element we have in real life: explanations for why things happen.”

Arndt went on to assure fans that he understands “...that being immersed in Star Wars is to truly embrace madness, not only in small nitpicking details, but also by delivering sudden character motivations, plot points which inexplicably change, and tonal levels which stretch credibility to the breaking point.”

In terms of his collaboration with Episode VII’s director, J. J. Abrams, Arndt was happy to report that he’d not even spoken to the director about the project.

“I really hope I never see him!” he said, “I mean, I’m not even sure I believe J.J. Abrams exists? That guy is a media hoax, right? If he is, it will make for a great Star Wars movie. I think when they see it, the fans will agree. This one makes the least sense, is the most ridiculous, and will make us say…yes…yes…this is the Star Wars we’ve all been waiting for! I would say ‘May the Force Be With You,’ but I’m not sure if we’ll even have those words in this new movie. It’s gonna be that good.”

When asked just how far the new movie will go out of its way to contradict the existing movies, Arndt finished his comments by saying:

“If you think this is going to be set in space just because it’s called Star Wars, I’d say, you’re not really a true Star Wars fan.”

Not sure what Bane wrote (my very own personal troll that's been ignored) - but I'm sure he's pointing out the obvious, that this was an April Fool's Joke. I read it from a link yesterday and noticed the date today. Fooled me.

The rumor mill continues - possible spoilers??? (if any of it is true):

http://schmoesknow.com/schmoes-know-...-casting-news/

Quote:
Schmoes Know Exclusive: Star Wars Casting News!

By Joe Ruggirello

Hello Schmoeville!

So hey, you guys hear they’re making a new Star Wars movie? I’m serious, they totally are. Now I realize the percentage of Schmoeville residents who are interested in Star Wars is small, but here’s a little bit of news for the few of you who are interested.

There are potential Episode VII spoilers ahead. Man, that felt good to say.

A reliable source (who wishes to remain anonymous) has seen a copy of the alleged casting breakdown that has been (or is about to be) sent out from JJ Abrams. That’s right, this supposedly comes straight from the man himself!

Now, we all know how this works. This could all be bulls***. Or it could be true today but they could change their minds tomorrow. So take all of this with a grain of salt. But, hypothetically, if this is all legit then…well it’s pretty huge. What my source saw includes a basic storyline overview AND gives away two of the main characters to be featured in the film. And, probably, a third supporting character as well. And they were kind enough to cut and paste what they saw and send it my way. Might that be something you’re interested in? Well then, read on!

Star Wars: Episode VII
Storyline: Two 17 year old twins, a girl and a boy, are trained by their uncle Luke to be the greatest Jedis in the galaxy. Problems arise when the male twin turns to the dark side.

Jaina Solo – Female, 17 years old, lead. – Jacen’s twin sister, one of the greatest Jedis in the galaxy, trained by her uncle Luke Skywalker

Jacen Solo – Male, 17 years old, lead – Jaina’s twin brother, one of the greatest Jedis in the world. A loner who is constantly struggling with the idea of what’s right and what’s wrong. Starts to turn to the dark side. Full of conviction that what he is doing is the “right thing”. Will eventually become Darth Caedus.

So…holy s***, right? So much news here! Assuming, of course, that this is all valid (which it certainly seems to be), then we now know that Episode VII (and, I’d assume, the rest of the trilogy) will tell the story of Han and Leia’s twins Jacen and Jaina with the focus being on Jacen’s eventual turn to the dark side. We’ve been wondering if these films were going to borrow from the Expanded Universe and it appears we have our answer: YES!

But wait, there’s more! The storyline breakdown states that the twins are trained by Luke Skywalker. Which means they’ll probably show that training in the movie. Which means that we probably just confirmed for certain that Mark Hamill will be in Episode VII! This is huge news, especially for those of us who drafted him first in the Schmoes Know Star Wars Draft. Just sayin…

One more thing of note: The twins are mentioned, but not their younger brother, Anakin. That’s weird, because…you know…he’s the third Solo kid and kinda has (well…had) a pretty big role in the Expanded Universe. So…is he not in it? The lack of a casting breakdown is one thing, but he’s not even mentioned in the storyline overview. Hmmm…

There you have it, Schmoeville. We now (probably, maybe, hopefully) have an idea what the story of Episode VII will be. All you Expanded Universe fans who have been anxiously awaiting this news can breathe a cautious sigh of relief. Jacen Solo, Jaina Solo, and Luke Skywalker WILL BE in Star: Wars Episode VII!!! I can’t believe I just typed that.
