Plot Summary: The plot involves a scientist whose brain gets uploaded into a supercomputer with the aim of creating the world’s first machine that can think for itself.

It was announced in October that Johnny Depp was set to headline Oscar-winning cinematographer Wally Pfister’s directorial debut, Transcendence and, today, The Wrap has learned a bit about the film's plot.

"It is true Johnny Depp’s brain is uploaded into a computer,“ producer Andrew Kosove told the site.

The article goes on to say that Depp will play a scientist named Will who is trying to create artificial intelligence. Will's wife, Evelyn, is another scientist and the pair work with a third, Max. From there, the film's plot is said to focus on, "singularity, nanotechnology and artificial intelligence".

The screenplay, written by newcomer Jack Paglen, was developed by Annie Marter and Straight Up Films, whose company principals include Marisa Polvino, Kate Cohen and Regency Boies. Polvino, Marter and Cohen will produce along with David Valdes, Broderick Johnson and Kosove. Boies will co-produce.

I’ve learned that the lead actress to star opposite Johnny Depp in Oscar-winning cinematographer Wally Pfister’s first directing effort Transcendence will be decided on Friday. Emily Blunt’s dates for All You Need Is Kill are still being worked out and that may affect her availability versus Rooney Mara and Rebecca Hall. Filming on the Alcon Entertainment production starts on March 4th. The screenplay is written by newcomer Jack Paglen and was developed by Annie Marter and Straight Up Films. Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas are executive producing for their longtime collaborator Pfister. Depp will play a scientist whose brain is uploaded after his death into a supercomputer by female scientist Evelyn.

Following yesterday's news that Paul Bettany has joined Johnny Depp in Oscar-winning cinematographer Wally Pfister's directorial debut, Transcendence, comes word that Warner Bros. Pictures has now set a release date of April 25, 2014 for the film. That is just one week before The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theaters.

Oscar winner Morgan Freeman is in final negotiations to join Johnny Depp, Paul Bettany, Rebecca Hall and Kate Mara in Oscar-winning cinematographer Wally Pfister's directorial debut, Transcendence, it was announced by Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson, co-founders and co-CEOs of Alcon Entertainment.

Principal photography is set to begin in May in Los Angeles. Alcon Entertainment will finance and produce the picture, which will be released via their output deal with Warner Bros. on April 25, 2014.

Written by Jack Paglen, the screenplay was developed by Annie Marter and Straight Up Films, whose company principals include Marisa Polvino, Kate Cohen and Regency Boies. Polvino, Marter and Cohen will produce along with David Valdes (Book of Eli), Johnson and Kosove. Boies will co-produce.

Christopher Nolan, Emma Thomas and Aaron Ryder are serving as executive producers.
