Default DVD burning issue "copy error"

For the past couple of years I've been using (Nero9) to burn/backup my dvd's onto blank dvdr's and (DVD 43) to by pass the coding. This use to work perfectly fine, but lately, I've been recieving "copy errors" either during the image burning process or during the actual burning process. Sometimes it will complete the process with no issues, but that's about 10% of the time, the other 90%, I get the error.

now I don't have the money to constantly pick up packs of dvdr's and have them wasted and was wondering what the issue would be here.

could the software just be out of date, should I upgrade to Nero10 or Nero11 or something else? Is there all of a sudden not enough space on my computer (I have uploaded quite a few digital copies of movies I've purchased since I originally installed the software) that's causing the issue? So should I invest in a flash drive, place my digital movies on there, delete them off the computer and free up some space?

will that help solve the issue?

any help or advice I can get would be greatly appreciated, and thank you in advance
