All joking aside, I like your review of Jack Reacher. Cruise's day as an action far at not what they used to be, so I can see how that might damper your review. I appreciate that you were able to find things to talk about other than Tom Cruise's career. You pointed out that the plot was lacking and mediocrity of the fight scenes. I enjoyed reading your review. Don't let the assbags calling you out for having a super biased review get you down! |

I thought this movie was good but that sniper scene in the beginning makes you cringe, only a week after what happened in Newtown, Ct.

The elephant in the room with Jack Reacher seems to be Mr Tom Cruise. I know a few people who will flat out refuse to watch films based purely on the fact he is in it. Now he seems like an absolute lunatic to me but I have enjoyed a lot of his films and continue to do so. I actually think he is quite a good actor. I enjoyed seeing him in this role where he pulls off most of what he goes for. Most of them one liners would have been wasted on others and it pulled quite a few laughs from the audience. He holds his own in all the fight scenes as you would expect after all the MI films.
Being from my side of the Atlantic I didn't have an issue with the sniper scene at the beginning. In fact I thought it was rather brave of the film to actually show him lining a shot up on a kid. They main issue is probably the length of the film, it hits a bit of a lull about middle way through especially the screen were Pike, yes I really wanted her boobs to fall out too!, and Cruise are going though all the victims. This does go on for some time. Was mad to see Werner Herzog in a main role and also a little distracting. I kept thinking to myself "don't you belong behind the camera". Other than that I really enjoyed it. They do attempt a Riggs-Joshua at the end and while it was a decent fight it never hits that height! 7/10 |

I think tom cruise is a crazy person, but I never had a problem with his acting. He usually brings a good amount of energy/charimsa and good effort to his films. I rarely care about what a film star does in their personal live as that sort of stuff doesnt matter to me at all.

Really enjoyed this movie, cruise is at his finest, the thread starter is on crack, I don't care if cruise runs around in his underwear doing crack in the streets, he's still a superb actor. Story was great, cruise was great.

You seem obsessed with crack.
Anyways, Jack Reacher is a pretty standard but enjoyable detective movie. Tom Cruise has helped to make a rather interesting central character. Sometimes its just fun to get caught up in a guy who is about to face five guys in a fight and gets cocky, saying something along the lines of it not being a fair fight... for them. And then proving it to be true. Sure its beyond cliche, but can be fun, and it is in this particular case. Following the story, its easy to notice that this came from a paperback novel. The plot really has that mass market detective flavour to it. Which is sort of good in the way that it intrigues you in its mystery. But its also bad in that it can seem convoluted at times. Tom Cruise pulls off a good action performance here. He does exactly what he needs to do to create a fun-to-watch bad ass. The sniper he faces off again, played by Jai Courtney, is good as his foil. However, Rosamund Pike who plays the lawyer teamed up with Reacher, is absolutely atrocious and does certainly bring the movie down when she's on screen. Also Werner Hertzog as the main baddie, cool as he may be, doesn't really fit in well. Robert Duvall also makes an appearance, and he's just awesome as usual. Jack Reacher is nothing outstanding, but it is an enjoyable watch. And lets face it, as much as we need great movies that challenge us, sometimes we also need movies that our middle-aged parents can just rent and enjoy for an evening. Jack Reacher is the latter. 7/10 |

Yeah, it's a surprisingly enjoyable detective thriller, but not much more than that. The main reason I enjoyed it so much was Tom Cruise, and the way he played the role. In many ways, it reminded me of the way Mark Harmon portrays the character of Gibbs on NCIS, right down to the tone of voice Cruise delivers a lot of his lines with. But it was still a very fun performance to watch. Though I have to say...Werner Herzog really felt wasted in this movie; he hardly did anything, just stood around and acted very impassively. But I liked how the movie didn't rely on action to keep you interested and instead focused on the story, even if it gets convoluted over time. Overall, though, a good movie.
