Just read about it. SOOOOOOO COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!!!!! NO! This will NOT be TransFormers... It'll be a slick, smart action sci-fi adventure! But there's no doubt that they saw TransFormers, looking at the robots thinking "Yes, we now have the technology to do this thing justice!"... I absolutely think this will be so badass!!! And the story kicks ass!!! I love Robotech, and I've for the longest time thought about the people of HollyWood doing a real life blockbuster! And now it'll finally happen!
But it sounds like this thing will be a trilogy! They will fight off three different kinds of alien civilizations (propably one for each movie), or so they mention. And they do refer to a tent-pole-franchise... It'll be cool! And they can't go around making an absolutely incredible story to go along with the ride! So again, NO, this will be no braindead transformers movie (which I still enjoy hehe). CAN'T WAIT! Last edited by Naite22; 09-07-2007 at 06:20 AM. |

No clue, but considering Tobey Maguire optioned it personally as a flagpole product for his own company, it'll probably be a more faithful adaptation of whatever it is than most cartoon-to-film movies since there's a fan at the helm.

after hearing about robotech being adapted, I would prefer to see Akira make it to the big screen, but dont involve Hollywood or they'll ruin it with their so-called "glamourous" film-making

I used to watch it in the morning before school back in the late 80s, and the last time I had something to do with Robotech was when they launched a decent game on the Xbox platform a few years back. Other then that it has been awhile. The original series had a decent plotline that would make for a good script so long as the powers that be don't destroy it.

It shouldn't be a hard show to adapt. Just take every shot in the movie and recreate it in live-action. There's no reason for even Hollywood to change anything (but they'll probably do it anyway.)

I think they would need to change the cornyness stuff about the singing but make it more about the alien finding out they have feelings and are some what human. Sorta like BSG was re done on si-fi channel with aliens sorry i cant spell their name.

Not since September of '07. My guess is that Maguire is hashing out the script with various writer's since acquiring the license. That could take some time. Another thing that could hamper development is the recent lackluster performance of Speed Racer. It was the hopes of the various studios that the race to reboot anime story lines into big budget productions would get off to a good start with SR, and with the poor receipts coming it, that outlook is not good.

Yeah Speed racer may have been a disappointment... but Robotech is nowhere near Speed Racer in terms of its potential for successful live action translations. Robotech is way better.

Warner Bros. has announced the director they've chosen for Robotech- Nick Mathieu. If you're asking yourself, "Who the hell is Nick Mathieu?" then you're not alone. He's never directed a feature film in his life. Apparently, he's never done anything of note in the entertainment industry, since his IMDB page is completely empty. The only reason he seems to have a page at all is due to the WB announcement.
If this is any indication of how serious we can expect WB to take the Robotech movie, we're in for a great deal of pain. LINK |

Everyone does indeed have to start somewhere. If WB was having Nick Mathieu start out with a small, stand alone feature film, that would be a reasonable place to start. Handing an unknown director the keys to what has the potential to be a major tentpole movie franchise seems like lunacy to me. You don't go straight from passing the drivers license exam to the Indy 500.
