Call me crazy, but I don't rate JJ Abrams all that much.

MI:3 was a serviceable sequel that looked good because the previous one was so bad.

Super 8 is Spielberg-lite, and that's being very generous.

Star Trek - despite the highly questionable script - is my favourite of his kind of by default, and while it looks flashy and had some fantastic effects I think it mainly worked due to the great casting.

Obviously the jury remains out on Star Trek: Into Darkness but having seen the 9-minute prologue I was left feeling extremely unimpressed.

I'm excited to see his vision of Star Wars but with all the Spielberg comparisons being thrown around I can't help but feel he's nowhere near deserving of them. Yet.

Well if you take in some perspectives... You can see MI, Star Trek, and Super 8 are still far superior films then a lot of the crappy scifi/action films we have gotten in the last decade.

It doesn't mean he's brilliant and god's gift to earth...But the potential for him is still there...

His films are so obnoxious in their style it feels like punishment to watch them. Granted there are good things in both of the films of his I've seen, but a lot of his decisions torpedo his own films.

I suppose I'll give him credit for being so significantly different, I have yet to find one of his films even passable.

I enjoyed Romeo and Juliet, and really liked Moulin Rouge. I thought both set out to do something new and both achieved. This kept my interest, and I thought their execution was excellent.

Haven't seen Australia, always thought it looked a little boring. But Gatsby definitely has me intrigued.

Romeo and Juliet was good (although it probably helps that I'm a big fan of the play). I haven't seen Australia; it looked a little dull to me at the time. And I don't remember enough of Moulin Rouge to give an opinion on it, unfortunately....
