I'm hugely skeptical of this being true.

Me too. Would he really want to go from Star Trek to Star Wars, especially since his ST films are so close to the latter?

Maybe he will merge franchises. It's written in the stars.
Get it?! Stars. They both begin with 'Star'. That's the joke. |

Wow!! This is huge! I hope he can bring some of the wit and charm he provided in Star Trek into the Star Wars universe, something that was greatly lacking in the prequels.

Now comes the part where he tells Star Trek that it'll always be his silver medal.

I wonder if he's going to use the spider monster again in Star Wars? We already saw that in the second prequel during the arena scene, but literally Abrams had that monster from Super 8, Star Trek and Cloverfield. At the end of the day though, I wonder if Abrams will tell Lucas to stick it if he tries to give stupid "consulting" ideas like adding another Jar Jar type character.

I'm okay with Abrams, but as others have noted, it's weird that he's doing Star Wars AND Star Trek.

I'm a bit weirded out by it, but really what does it matter? As long as he gives us a great movie like I know he can.
Getting spoilers on this will be difficult, his production company are tighter than a frogs *******.

I wonder, depending on how pleased Disney is with his handling of Star Wars, if they would want JJ to take the reigns of Indiana Jones too (if Spielberg chooses to move into EP role). I'm sure Spielberg would vouch for him.

I always find it funny when people try to make fun of my CS name. Duh, that's the whole point. How absolutely brilliant of you!
![]() I just hope Abrams doesn't push for Orci and Kurtzman to write VIII and IX. Would be cool to see Spielberg take over for Star Trek though and give that a shot. This is great news for the series though - Abrams will do a great job and I think with Arndt writing, things are looking really good.

The script-writer is Michael Arndt, the guy who wrote Little Miss Sunshine (Oscar-winning script) and Toy Story 3 (Oscar-nominated script). We're in good hands, good sir!!

Abrams is more suited to Star Wars than Trek, anyway. I'd rather he left Trek to people more familiar with the series.

I agree that Abrams is better suited for Star Wars. That's why I'm okay with him. My concern, however, is if he'll be creatively burned out. He's going from two Star Trek movies directly into Star Wars. How many space adventure movies does this guy plan on doing in a short span? Plus, with the exception of Super 8, all his directorial efforts have been sequels. Even Brett Ratner hasn't made this many sequels. I don't know... I think they should have stuck with Matthew Vaughn. But it seems like Kathleen Kennedy really wants Abrams.

He has got ST off to a good start though, and there's a better than even chance Into Darkness will have trekkies creampieing each other.
Someone like Brad Bird will helm ST: XIII

From what I understand, early production has already started right? When might we expect to start seeing some more news on when filming might start, etc.?
