I agree with pretty much everything you guys are saying.

From what it sounds like it will come down to this or Les Mis for the Best Picture Oscar. Between the two I would have to choose c) Other. What that 'other' is, well...

Really enjoyed this, really liked Dan I was bummed when he decided to not do the job we saw him do in the beginning. Can someone clear this up I could have swore the seal team had a gun fight when we raided the compound, in this movie it was just some quick shots

That's what a real life gunfight looks like. A couple quick exchanges of gun fire, and then game over. From what I know, the portrayal was pretty accurate.

I think it will come down between Zero Dark Thirty, Lincoln, and Django.

Kateryn won for Hurt Locker, this movie feels a little too familiar... I could be wrong I mean hell if "King Speech" can win

Forgot about Argo... Roger Ebert said It's the best movie of 2012. Could be a high potential

Problem is, none of those movies are going to be remember for years to come. None of them are really masterpieces or will become classics, to be honest.

And even the masterpieces don't win.

I see it this way; who gives a rat's ass about an Oscar? If I think a movie is great, that's all I need.

he made a comment about a movie he saw in a threat about the movie instead of posting which movie might get nominated. Some of us don't care what movie wins an Oscar, as the award doesn't really mean anything.

-- I am interested in seeing this movie soon.

Oh believe me, I know. I have to listen to dozens of people complain about it every year.

Yeah, I'm already burnt out on Oscar talk. It used to be fun, now it's just a waste of time.

Thumbs up

"WHO ARE YOU?"

"I'M THE MOTHERF--KER THAT FOUND THIS PLACE."

Let me start off by saying that Kathryn Bigelow was robbed by the Motion Picture Academy. Not only did she deserve a nomination, but she should have won as well.

It took a decade to find and kill Bin Laden. That was a long time. In that period, London and Spain were attacked, and at home, we got mixed up in the Iraq War and went through two Presidents. Bigelow masterfully takes the audience through the passage of time.

The film kicks-off two years after the September 11 attacks. Maya (Jessica Chastain) is practically a rookie that has been dropped into the middle of a manhunt. Her superiors have acknowledged that tracking down Bin Laden has been more difficult than expected. They're now prepared for a long-term mission. Maya's main objective is to learn the trade and be prepared to take-over in the future. She does all of that and more. In the 8 years that she's on the job she goes through several collegues and bosses, loses a few friends, is almost killed twice, gets put on al-Qaeda's Watch List, and eventually leads the charge onto the compound. We see this woman go from a wide-eyed CIA agent to the person responsible for Bin Laden's death. It's an incredible story that makes Ben Affleck in Argo look like small-scale stuff.

Bigelow also pulls a Coen Bros by combining several genres. The film starts as a procedural. We see the infamous tortures, the interrogations, the research, the brainstorming sessions, and all the daily paperwork. Then when Maya finds the target that leads her to Bin Laden, we get an edge of your seat spy thriller. There's an entire sequence where they're trying to locate a cellphone signal that's insanely suspenseful. This is the work of a master filmmaker. And then finally, Maya locates Bin Laden's hideout and we get a fascinating political drama. I don't know how much of the story is true, fabricated, or exaggerated but its quite clear that Bigelow and screenwriter Mark Boal give 95% of the credit to the CIA and the other 5% to Seal Team 6. The movie is very critical of the Government, both Bush AND Obama get slammed, and that explains why the Senate is so upset and doing an investigation. Forget the torture stuff. They just don't like being dissed.

Overall, Zero Dark Thirty is exhilarating and perhaps the best picture of 2012. It was made by a director at the top of her game with a rising star that's destined for greatness. Chastain deserves almost as much credit as Bigelow. She takes the audience on an emotional journey as Maya goes from a paper pusher to a total badass who does whatever it takes to get the job done. So, forget the controversy and negativity. Zero Dark Thirty is a must-see!
