Finished the book today, and I gotta say, I'm REALLY excited for this movie now. Everything is upped a level in it -- the personal problems of Katniss and Peeta, the tension between the Districts and the Capitol (this being the biggest thing to start building higher), and especially the intensity of the Games. If the movie lives up to it, this'll be another case of the second movie in a franchise being better than the first.

Starting Mockingjay tomorrow.

The director's race is now between Bennett Miller (Moneyball) and Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend).

Francis Lawrence has way more experience with action and effects.

The only other movies he has done are Water for Elephants and Constantine. I don't like any of his films. My vote is officially in for Bennett Miller.

Miller has the job if he wants it. He just has to decide between this or another project that's also courting him.

Bennett Miller and Francis Lawrence? Eh.

Francis Lawrence's directorial efforts thus far haven't been that impressive, and having only seen Miller's Moneyball, and not Capote, I can say that if he DOES get the job, then he'll at least need to inject some life into it on his part. His muted style of directing doesn't really fit something like this.

Francis Lawrence got the job. I hope Lionsgate keeps him on a tight leech. He's good with effects and visuals but his storytelling skills are terrible. Someone is definitely gonna have to serve as an unofficial co-director.

IMAX Corporation and Lionsgate, a leading diversified global entertainment company, today announced that The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, the second film in the wildly popular franchise, will be released in the immersive IMAX format on November 22, 2013.

....

Helping to further eventize this cultural phenomenon and transport moviegoers into the world of Panem, director Francis Lawrence will utilize IMAX cameras in filming portions of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

In other news, Phillip Seymour Hoffman has been offered a role in the film.

This will come as no surprise:

Quote:
Lionsgate will release two films based on Mockingjay, the third book in Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games trilogy. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 will bow worldwide November 21, 2014, followed by The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 on November 20, 2015. The first sequel, Catching Fire, is coming out November 22, 2013. The original Hunger Games bowed March 23 and has grossed $404.4 million at the domestic box office and $678.2 million worldwide.

I hardly even care about these books and I can't help but feel disgusted by this. The last book is, what, 400 pages? I see they're OK with what I'm sure will ruin any chances of the movie series being any good for a few bucks. Nobody gives a **** anymore.

Completely unneccessary. I could easily adapt the book into one screenplay. Easily.

If another movie means another $700 million at the worldwide box office, then Lionsgate is gonna go for it.

I do not want to see two Mockingjays! The last book is when everything turns to s**t.

Thats just ridiculous. I can see why Harry Potter did it, but they started a bad new trend.

I also think one a year for four straight years is a bit excessive.

EW also sat down with Sam Claflin, the green-eyed, dimpled Brit who won the role of District 4′s charming and enigmatic golden boy Finnick Odair, for his first Hunger Games interview. He described filming the infamous sugar cube scene, in which Finnick teases Katniss while wearing nothing beyond some strategically placed netting, as “the scariest moment of my life. I’m on Twitter and so many people have been like ‘Don’t mess this up, or we will kill you.’
Oh my.

There's also a nude girl in that scene as well, with "strategically-placed netting."

Then again, they're gonna shoot for a PG-13 rating...
