I had an arm of VHS tapes too, in fact, I went through at least four copies of 1985 growing up, lol.

You can't be held responsible for what you enjoyed as a child. Kids have very different perspectives than adults. Most kids don't understand half of what's going on with the story of any given movie. As much as I loved Star Wars as a boy, it wasn't due to the classic hero's journey of the story or the clever humor. It was the cool action scenes and amazing visual FX. I would have enjoyed it just as much if it had been as awful as The Phantom Menace. In fact, I'm sure the six year-old version of me would have had a great time watching TMP. In my younger days, I thought that Moonraker was a fantastic 007 movie. Today, I would only be able to sit through it if paid, and paid well.

My guilty pleasure when it comes to movies I liked as a kid is Godzilla. My favorite was Godzilla vs Megalon. I wanted to see more movies featuring Jet Jaguar, Godzilla's robot friend. I enjoy them on a very different level today, in an MST3K kinda way. Terribly awesome.

That was a great one. Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla too.

My second favorite Godzilla movie. That's what made 1985 so perfect, it was a direct sequel!

As a six year old, you're probably right, but I watched the Phantom Menace when I was 12 and I knew it was terrible. Maybe a better example is "Batman and Robin," I watched that when I was 10 and I knew it was horrible.

There's a catch though, regarding the Godzilla 1985 movie.

Originally, when Gojira was released, America made changes then released it in the U.S. under the title "Godzilla: King of the Monsters", which sucked. Then when the direct sequel (1985) came out, America again made changes to it and released it in America under the title "Godzilla 1985" and included Raymond Burr once again, as they did with him in the first one. It was stupid, but they did it. It's very, very hard these days to find the original version, but I would suggest looking online, as the original DVDs are still sold in most of asia.

Here's a link to the wiki page talking about the differences.

If it's stupid, why should I find it?

Some pretty big shake ups are happening over at the camp for the Godzilla reboot, but among the most interesting is that former The Walking Dead showrunner Frank Darabont will be doing the final rewrite of the screenplay for the film (via Deadline). The first drafts of the script were written by Seventh Son writer Max Borenstein and it was previously rewritten by Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3).

Darabont is no stranger to writing scripts about monsters having penned 2007's The Mist, Kenneth Branagh's Frankenstein, and the remake of The Blob.

Gareth Edwards (Monsters) will direct the reboot, which is slated to hit 3D and 2D theaters on May 16, 2014. Filming is expected to begin in March.

Toho's Godzilla franchise boasts one of the most widely recognized film creatures worldwide, resulting in a series of books, television programs, video games and more than 25 films worldwide. Legendary Pictures has said that they intend to approach the film and its characters in the most authentic manner possible.
