I broke that rule of mine with A Song of Ice and Fire. Book 3, A Storm of Swords, has that ugly HBO banner at the top. I got that one instead because the other, nicer edition split book 3 into two books. Also, book 5, A Dance with Dragons, is the only hardcover edition I have. This annoys me quite a bit.

My Dance with Dragons is also the only hardcover of the set, but it looks OK.

A Dance with Dragons is the only hardcover I own of the series. Both A Game of Thrones and A Storm of Swords are paperback. I have no idea where I put A Clash of Kings. But on the other hand, two out of my three books are signed by GRRM himself. So there's also that.

Any Philip K. Dick fans around? Other than The Man in the High Castle, Ubik and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, which other books should I read? I am interested in his short stories, but I'm not sure which collection to buy. Also, VALIS has been greatly cited as one of his best, but I'm not sure if, based on what I've read, I will enjoy it very much at all. Thoughts?

Hah, those are the exact three that I've read. However, I do own Valis included in that stack of 4-5 books I mentioned earlier. Don't think I'm reading it next though.

I'm actually looking at Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said and The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch.
Those and A Scanner Darkly.

Finished Cloud Atlas (which had the movie poster cover) earlier this week.
Starting Sapphire Blue by Kerstin Gier. (Mainly reading these because a friend of mine has been hounding me for months to.)

Just finished Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick. Amazing book until the last 40 pages. It didn't suck, of course, but it started to get a little... weird. It's as if Dick ran out of ideas, so he decided to take some drugs and continue writing. I'm not sure what to make of the ending just yet, and I think I'm still processing it. Perhaps the tonal shift was too jarring for me, and I did not expect the last 40 pages to go on this weird, trippy tour into the protagonist's mind (I think). Still, I think I like the book, but I'd have liked it more if the last 40 pages didn't confuse me so much.
I do have so many questions regarding the stories, too. Like, why are there two Rachael Rosens? I know they are both androids, but why are there two? And how did Rick merge with Mercer? What happened? It's all a little confusing. But I think I get the overarching theme, the whole bit about humanity, reality and empathy. That I get. I just don't get the minor plot points. Some help?

Sorry, I don't remember. I didn't care for the book. Wikipedia typically goes into analyses for books, though.
I've started to read "Blackout" by Connie Willis.

dick always does that. he never knows how to end his stories.
read it earlier this year and remembered i liked it a lot more than blade runner. actually gained some respect for phillip dick from me, all his other books i read were forgettable due to him losing steam towards the end. finally found a kindle with the free 3g. starting on my collection of e-books now.

After reading reviews online and giving it some thought, I actually really liked the book. Not great, since the ending was just weird, but I still liked it a lot.
Anyway, next up, Mistborn: The Well of Ascension. I've been holding off on book 2 for some time now. I definitely need to start on this series again. P.S. I got the more expensive hardcover edition because the paperback version really sucks.

Hey guys, since we all have smart phones, we should show off our bookshelves. You don't have to show the entire collection, but corners that you want to highlight. It'd be fun.

see i have a visual order problem, too many big books in between little books, all my hard covers are separated from the paperbacks. and most are on shelves in a visually pleasing, large to small to large row order.
i also color code my blu rays/video games.

Yeah, I separate my hardbacks and paperbacks, too. Also, I organize my books alphabetically by the last name of the author and THEN the actual title.

My comic book collection.
I keep the Tolkien and GRRM stuff on a separate shelf from all the other books. I have a few editions of The Hobbit, The Silmarillion and The Lord of the Rings. I know, the ziploc bag is ugly as hell, but it does what it needs to do.

I could take a picture with my camcorder. Could probably get better resolution if anyone's interested.
Mine are arranged alphabetically by author and then chronologically by publication date.
