Exclamation Heading to the Disney Vault, excuse me, WB Vault.

Well, this is stupid:

http://www.deadline.com/2011/10/warn...29-with-12-1b/

Quote:
Harry Potter, the #1 motion picture franchise of all time, will soon disappear from shelves, as Warner Bros. stops shipping all Harry Potter theatrical film titles (including Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows™ – Part 2, and Harry Potter: The Complete 8-Film Collection) as of December 29, 2011
So, basically, this is your last chance to own any (or all) of the movies on DVD or Blu-Ray.

Soooo I guess this means waiting for a better release (EEs, special features) of the 8 films would be a bad idea?

Or is this how they WANT me to react?

For like $100 you can get all 8 movies on Blu-Ray. I guess you might want to start saving up.

According to Digital Bits, they're planning to reissue them in late 2012. Not sure why.

http://www.thedigitalbits.com/#mytwocents

I'm just going to buy them on blu-ray. The first 6 films are rather cheap.

About halfway through the series I got into it and decided to leave off from buying them until they all came out. Sooo, that's about 5 years. I guess I could wait another year...bastards.

I was going to get this initial release of the Deathly Hallows Part 2 Blu Ray anyway, so I don't really care about this. I've been getting the movies as they come out rather than waiting for Extended Editions or whatever; those versions really aren't THAT important to me. I'm more than happy with the theatrical versions.

And didn't they do the same thing a while ago with, like, the first three movies?

Well, it must've been they pulled them for a while either to put them in new packaging or wait for the EE's of those movies.

This is an update from Digital Bits.

Quote:
All right, I've had the chance to talk this afternoon with Jeff Baker - the Executive VP and General Manager for Theatrical Catalog at Warner Home Video - about the newly-announced Harry Potter BD/DVD moratorium. Obviously, WHV expects that the peak consumer demand for these films is going to spike with the 11/11 BD and DVD release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, and that it will continue through the holidays and the end of the year. The moratorium will start on 12/29, but even though all existing Blu-ray and DVD releases of the Potter films will no longer be shipped to retailers after that date, the studio still expects that enough existing inventory will remain to meet any lingering demand for the titles until well into 2012. It hasn't yet been decided exactly when the moratorium will end, but Baker told me that it shouldn't be longer then 12 to 18 months. So it could end in late 2012 or early 2013. At that point, all of the product that's already been released will return to stores, and the studio will release the much-anticipated Ultimate Collector's Editions of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 on Blu-ray and DVD. So those of you who have been collecting the UCEs can rest easy - you will get the last two films as UCE sets eventually as well. In addition, at that time Warner Home Video will also release additional, new Harry Potter Blu-ray and DVD product with substantial new features. (Baker wasn't ready to talk details on this obviously, but it will probably include some kind of new super-deluxe BD and DVD box set of all the films with newly-produced content, among other SKUs.) And of course, the idea will be to make the Harry Potter re-introduction a major "event" release for fans and retailers.

Well, i gave in and bought them all on blu-ray. While they're still around. In my defense, Bet Buy did have them on sale.

It's all about the money - they do it to make sales, and then bring them out for more money again later.

Well of course, and its a strategy that's worked quite well with Disney. But I don't plan on double-dipping, so I figure may as well get them while they're cheap.

Good question. Hold on...

Yeah, the do. On first glance it looks similar to the DVD features.

I`ll be honest though, my love for special features has died down quite a bit. Very few are actually interesting or different.

Commentaries are really the only thing I'll check out. And gag reels on comedies.
