Not really, the AFI almost always has one populist choice in the mix. In the past they've included the likes of Bridesmaids, The Hangover, The Dark Knight, Iron Man, and Borat.

People seriously thought that Bridesmaids had a chance of getting a BP nod that year. Ever since they expanded the BP to ten nominees people have had extravagant notions of what can possibly get nominated and every year you have people with delusions that films like Bridesmaids or Star Trek or The Hangover or Skyfall have a chance of slipping in....

Let's not pretend Skyfall is in the same league as The Hangover and Bridesmaids.
Please.

A lot of my favourites are getting a lot of attention. Disappointed that Moonrise Kingdom seems to be getting ignored.

Mr. Dracula, Adele's Skyfall is eligible for an Oscar nomination.

Last year, the Academy changed the rules regarding the Best Song category. Songs are only eligible if they play an important role in the film. That's why there was only two songs nominated last year. Dracula earlier brought up that Adele's song hadn't officially become eligible, but now we know that it has. So that's good for Skyfall. Adele's song and Roger Deakins cinematography are the only sure bets.

Even though I wasn't crazy about The Master as a film, yeah...Phoenix deserved a nomination.

Amy Adams was snubbed too. And once again, not enough Moonrise Kingdom. While no one performance steals the show, I feel the ensemble cast is worthy of a nomination.
Other than that though, decent selection. A bit surprised to see The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel do as well as it is. EDIT: Prometheus is also not doing as well in the various technical categories as I thought it would.

My thoughts exactly. Some people are also wondering why Django Unchained got a Drama nomination. They're saying it should have been Comedy and given The Master a Drama nomination.
