That's the very definition of speculative fiction.

It's similar to "hard science fiction."

I read the definition (of speculative fiction) as the strange and unusual far reaching part of science fiction.
I don't usually read it though

currently I'm not reading anything but schoolbooks (on occasion), but last night my cat pulled some Vonnegut down from the bookshelf in the bedroom. Maybe it's a sign I need to start fun reading again. |

Does it count as reading if it is an oral autobiography?

the heroes by joe abercrombie and edmumd morris's biography of teedie roosevelt - the rise of theodore roosevelt.
the heroes is another book by abercrombie in the first law setting, new characters and stuff, but just great battles. the guy just knows how to write fantasy, he uses a lotta cliches in his view of the 'trenches' with the pawns of the army, but damn if they don't all pretty much work.

If any of you liked House of Leaves, check this out. Sure, it may all be a gimmick, but Danielewski's writing is just as moving as ever (even in the form of a "ghost story"). Surreal, dizzying, and incredibly visionary.

Yeah, I wasn't very big on it. It's heavy on sociology, if you're into that kind of science fiction.

Just finished 2001: A Space Odyssey by Arthur C. Clarke. I really love ACC's works! I kinda prefer Rendezvous with Rama over this, but I felt this was pretty immerse as well. It's a really SLOW novel, though, so it did take some time for me to go through with it. Th ending was definitely weird as hell, and I'd have liked to see more of Hal's menace onboard the ship. Nonetheless, I thought it was a great read, and I can't wait to read the next ACC book I've purchased, Childhood's End.
Moving on to Do Androids Dream of Electric Ship? by Philip K. Dick.

Also, I would really recommend "2010" if you like ACC's work. I liked it better than "2001."

Will look into that one when I pay off my book debt. It's quickly building up.
