So just went to rt an noticed that rating already, you guys think the movie is the meh or the critics just tired of this universe and Jackson?

I might not even see it. I've been completely unexcited about this project from the word "go."

Yeah, I've never felt the hype for this. I'll likely see it because I'm sure there will be some good things, but the RT score is a bit discouraging.

I was never into LOTR anyway, so this means nothing to me.

Three movies for a 300 page book is Lucas like. No one can argue different. Studio had nothing to do with it either, all Jackson.

I am seeing them and the Rating is not a total surprise. Mostly because they saw it in 48 while most of us will get it in 24 and have the choice of 3D and 2D and likely will get the better movie.

I love the fact that we get the 9 min clip of the new Star Trek movie with The Hobbit.

Another thing is that some of the critics just can't stop comparing the books. RINGS was a much more heavy( hard to read) & The Hobbit was much more light hearted & fun read. You can't compare RINGS & The Hobbit books or movies. No matter what Jackson does everything he does will be compared to RINGS. The Massive success of RINGS & all the various awards that the movies have won, set the standard for anything Middle Earth or other fantasy films. On critic who really liked the movie said in regards to the new format was. The new format takes the fantasy out of the film and, puts it outside of your front door, they don't know it that is a good or bad thing. Thing is that Jackson may go back & do some editing for part II & they still have some pickups to do next year. As far as RT ratings go, they keep going both up and down. Now, it is at 74% a few things will not be is ROTTEN or reach the 90's that all 3 rings movie did.

I suppose I will watch this out of cultural relevance and pressure, but the fact that they stretched a short and simple children's book into THREE movies entirely for the cash is an absolute joke.

My thoughts on this movie are the same as the ones I had before FOTR. I was already a fan of the books, so the weeks leading up to the release of FOTR was more cautiously optimistic than excitement. I think my anticipation/excitement truly kicked in after I watched FOTR for the very first time. I think people will really only be truly invested in this new trilogy after this first movie. Myself, like everybody else here, I am worried about the story being stretched out into three movies. But if it works in the first movie and it looks like it will for the second, I think I will come around to that idea.
I think I was way more excited back when the LOTRs were released because I was 13. Probably explains a thing or two.

jackson knows he has no talent outside of middle earth (go ahead and argue for dead alive and king kong, everyone will smile politely... but you know the truth). he has to keep mining it. maybe if he went with 2 movies though, we would be talking about him doing star wars (to go full whore, not just half), so he might have screwed himself out of a job.

I guess i am Kind well shocked that this movie is getting so much well Hate and complaining and its not even released yet. I mean The Star Wars prequels were loved until they were released then they were hated. But seems like not many is even giving this movie a chance.

Yeah in King Kong the dinosaur stampede looked stupid.
I'm pretty jazzed for The Hobbit actually
