You're both nuts.
I'll grant you that Spike Lee isn't the most consistent filmmaker by any means, but when he's on he's unstoppable and I don't think he's ever made a film which isn't at least interesting. Do the Right Thing in particular is an unassailable masterpiece, what's your beef with it?

I enjoyed 25th hour and Inside Man. But Spike Lee hasn't done anything truely great for a long time. And he is about to ruin Oldboy...

25th Hour and Inside Man were both good. And yeah, his idea of remaking Oldboy is absurd. One of my favorite movies. I still can't believe--well, I can, but I didn't expect him to be doing it--it's being remade.

Inside Man was entertaining as well. I found Do the Right Thing tedious and filled with mixed messages.

Moviebuff is pretty close with mine. After seeing TDKR again on Blu Ray (hopefully tonight) I'll probably decide.

As we wait for MasterChief, I'll take this topic in a new direction.
AS MOVIES, I'd say Dark Knight Begins Rises But as BATMAN ADAPTATIONS, it's become quite clear to me that it's Begins Dark Knight Rises In other words, the more Batman movies Christopher Nolan made the less faithful to the comics they became. Batman Begins has many flaws. Doomsday and I have spent 7 years pointing them out. But it can't be denied it's a pretty good adaptation of contemporary Batman comic books. Despite all the "realism", Nolan throws in The Narrows and Arkham Asylum to give the movie a proper Batman look, style, and tone. There is A LOT of action scenes and superhero heroics. And most importantly, it has HEART. The Dark Knight is an incredible film. It's easily the best in the trilogy. HOWEVER, it's basically a crime thriller with Batman characters in it. It reminds me of Batman Returns. People say that's a Tim Burton movie with Batman characters. Well... Dark Knight is a Chris Nolan movie with Batman characters. Dark Knight gets so lost in "realism" it forgets to be a superhero movie. That's something Begins didn't suffer from. As for Rises, well, it pretty much spit on the mythology. And I wonder how many years it's gonna take for fanboys to wake up and realize that.

1. TDK
2. BB 3. TDKR As for Easy A, I liked it but it is a bit overrated.

Probably the same number of years it will take for Bond fans to realize that Daniel Craig's films do the same to that franchise.

Growing up, the Brosnan films were the bee's knees. Everyone thought so. Now people say they're silly 90s action films and the serious ones are better. Every iteration of the Bond series will start high then go back down after it's replaced. Except for Connery.

Craig still has a couple of Bond movies left on his contract. If he ever manages to make a traditional Bond film, I think people will be okay with the different ones. I may have my issues with Dark Knight Rises, but I still appreciate what Nolan & Bale did with the previous two movies. Their legacy isn't harmed as far as I'm concerned. But..... As you pointed out, fanboys are just crazy that way. Burton/Keaton, like Brosnan, was the "bee's knee" in the `90s and look how those films are treated now. Raimi/Maguire were the "bee's knee" in the `00s and look how those movies are treated now.

After seeing The Dark Knight Rises again, in the comfort of my home in glorious Blu-ray, I remain undecided in my decision. There is no doubt that The Dark Knight is the better choice (character balance, story logic, less plot holes, consistent). Batman Begins has more character balance but the themes in TDKR are more pronounced (regardless of how rampant they are). Eh. I can't decide.
