I watched TDKR again last night. I would say I enjoyed it more than my previous two viewings. I don't know that I'd necessarily put it above either of Nolan's other Batfilms, but that's saying more about the quality of the other two than it is about TDKR. I might put it above Batman Begins, maybe. I did come away still having the one major complaint I did after the previous screenings though. Call it a drama, a crime drama, a character piece, etc, whatever, it's still a Batman movie. And for a Batman movie it has a surprising lack of Batman.

My problem is that it failed as a continuation of what Nolan started and even worse failed as a Batman movie. Apocalyptic opera featuring the character Batman is how I see it. I even think catwoman does more ass kicking than our hero - he only gets his ass kicked or runs away in that horrid spaceship (That's about as memorable as his appearences get). Even Alfred goes awol! Come on...lets be honest with ourselves, it may entertain you as a film but ultimately this is stand alone feature that doesn't deliver Batman in all his glory. I would have settled for a smaller movie. I want TDK to be the last part for me, however the cliffhanger ending doesn't let me feel that way about it...therefore TDKR is the Return of the Jedi, Bane is the Emperor, the rest of the characters are the ewoks. The fire doesn't even rise god damn it!

Batman Begins is a MILLION times better than this movie. Heck, Batman FOREVER is better than this movie.

Come on now Neverending, Lets not get carried away...Forever was as good as TDKR, not better.
I'm not trying to hate Mikey, I just can't get passed the fact that I was dissapointed and it hurts...I cry myself to sleep every night. Deep down Nolan knows...he knows... |

He had Batman (89) and The Dark Knight tied for best comic book film, so I'd say he does enjoy Nolan's interpretation. He also said he had a new found respect for Batman Begins upon the most recent viewing. So I'd say he does like Nolan's interpretation, just not the last film.

Watched it for the fifth time yesterday, and whatever issues I have with it (mainly the first half hour) don't bother me as much anymore. I ultimately don't mind that Batman isn't in the film as much because the rest of the story is just so damn involving and as for the ending...I'm not going to presume to say Nolan's choice was RIGHT or anything like that, but I can at least respect and appreciate the risk he took with it. Mainly because he brought it all full circle, going back to the conversation on the jet in Batman Begins between Bruce and Alfred.

The film ultimately makes no sense. There was no legitimate reason for Hermit Bruce Wayne. Just because Batman isn't needed doesn't mean Bruce Wayne can't contribute to society the way his father did. Bane was essentially a glorified henchman. The whole "shock ending" with Talia was stupid. She should have been there the moment Bane attacked Wall Street. And if she had actually been Bruce Wayne's girlfriend, it would have added an emotional punch. And let's not get started on Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Didn't he try to contribute to society by creating clean energy?

I find this movie highly entertaining and capitvating, but i do see some of the plot holes that people pick about, i do agree that Bane went out pretty soft, i mean Batman techinically never beat him, Bane was about to kill him for good, and Catwoman saved his ass.
I still think the whole all the cops going into the sewer, the Bane taking over Gotham so easily thing, was a bit to far fetched. In short, i guess one could say this was the movie that Nolan stepped a tad bit out of his comfort zone, maybe tried to hard to top TDK, instead of just accepting that TDK was a once in a life time movie mainly because of a once in the life time type performance, than again i loved Hardys Bane, probably my second favorite movie villain behind Ledgers Joker |

"So that's what that feels like..." is a ridiculous line, the moment he said this I knew all hope was lost...I also tried to ignore the battle dance sequence he has with catwoman on the roof top. Was very very reminicent of FOREVER and B&R. Do they talk to each other while fighting? I think they do...
Can someone tell me if Bane is supposed to have a built in microphone in that mouth guard? His voice sounded amplified everytime he spoke... |

They do speak, but it's not exactly a conversation. Catwoman is about to shoot a thug when Batman knocks it out of her hand and says "No guns, no killing." She says "Where's the fun in that?" That's it, really. The entire fight sequence is actually very short. After only about twenty seconds of fighting (including the conversation), Bane shows up with another dozen thugs with assault rifles, so the two of them run for it. The over-choreographed fights of the Schumacher era went on for several minutes.
