I'm just still pretty pissed that they pushed back the wide release for Zero Dark Thirty all the way back to Jan. 11th.

Anyway, looks like I'll be seeing Lincoln tomorrow.

Liberal Hollywood hates it. It's pro-waterboarding. But I'm sure the Clint Eastwood's of the industry will be supporting it. Plus, it doesn't hurt that Katheryn Bigelow is a ridiculously attractive 50-something woman. That will help "the campaign." Remember how everyone voted for The Hurt Locker because they thought it would be hilarious to see James Cameron, in his Avatar ego-fest, lose to his ex-wife. At the ceremony, they even sat her right in front of him. I don't think Zero Dark Thirty will win Best Picture, but Bigelow is probably the one to beat for Best Director.

Considering the underwhelming reviews for The Hobbit, and it's total lack of Oscar buzz, it'll probably not get nominated. BUT..... the whole point of expanding to 10 nominations was to acknowledge more commercial films. This is what everyone was complaining about in 2009 when Dark Knight and Wall-E were snubbed. So, a replacement for The Hobbit would have to be something truly high-profile. Does that mean Batman will finally get a Best Picture nod or did the Oscars make up for it with Inception? I'm thinking another legendary screen hero might get his due:

Keep in mind that no Bond film (including Casino Royale) has received single a nomination in any category since 1981. That says to me that they just aren't interested.

I don't hate the new Bond films, I have issues with them but I don't hate them. I just think the idea of calling any James Bond film (even the older ones that I love) "Oscar-worthy" is kind of ridiculous. They're fun movies, but they're not art, even among action films I wouldn't call any of them towering achievements when looked at objectively.

I have had zero interest in Zero Dark Thirty because the subject matter doesn't really interest me. Is a movie about guys killing Bin Laden really that good?

I'm not saying that Skyfall doesn't have a prayer of getting some down ticket nods, but it's going to have to fight and scrape for those so lets not start throwing around BP predictions.

We still don't know if the Adele song is even going to be eligible, and even if it is you've got to keep in mind the sheer number of seemingly nominatable songs have been in James Bond movies since 1981 that they never went ahead and nominated. Also keep in mind that Deakins has a curse or two of his own when it comes to the Academy Awards.
