A Galaxy Not so Far Away!
|
http://www.avclub.com/articles/hugh-...l_film&_r=true
Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe will make an argument for the masculinity of musical theater in next year’s Les Misérables, with Jackman imbuing the role of Jean Valjean with the same virile swagger he brought to his roles in shows like Oklahoma!, and, of course, Viva Laughlin, and Crowe channeling the gruff-yet-sensitive soulfulness of his 30 Odd Foot Of Grunts gig into playing Inspector Javert. As previously reported, The King’s Speech director Tom Hooper will head up this adaptation of Claude-Michel Schönberg’s famed musical—itself, of course, derived from Victor Hugo’s 1862 novel, which had far less singing. The film’s just-announced December 7, 2012 release puts it squarely alongside The Hobbit

Finally get to see Hugh Jackman's stage acting put in good use. Russell Crowe always a plus.

Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe together in a musical? Interesting, to say the least.

I love Les Mis, not sure how I feel about Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe in it though. Although Crowe could make a great Javert.

So Anne Hathaway has also signed onto this. This will be a pretty interesting film to follow since it was a massively popular Broadway musical and, if done correctly, has the makings to be a massive Oscar contender for the 2013 Oscars. The Academy has always had a soft spot for musicals as well as the actors in them, and considering how popular these three actors are this could be one of the big films to beat.

Chicago is the only musical film I like. I thought it was brilliant. If done right. This could be great

This has Oscar bait written all over it. Plus, it's from the same director as King's Speech which is shocking considering this movie actually has production values.

Call me lame and going against the grain, but this is my #1 most anticipated movie for 2012.

If we're going off musicals in general, there is so much you're missing out on my friend, look to the classics. Now if we're going off broadway adaptations, then it's RENT all the way! That movie managed to deliver a solid version, retaining the BULK of it's original broadway cast and still come out strong in the end. I thought Chicago was great, I did. But for me, it's RENT.

Dayyum, how'd I miss that?
Looks like a cross between Untouchables and LA Confidential. In no way is that a bad thing. |

Wrong thread, but yeah, there's a lot of good films coming out this year that's not a comic book or sequel, lol. Gatsby is another one.

It looks terrible, unless you're a fan of musicals, but it's the front runner for Best Picture so most of us will end up watching it.

yea this looks like most plays and theater pieces... ostentatious. but it is made by tom hooper, so i don't know why i'm surprised, nice to see him have to be a visual director though, the kings speech had such bland direction.

This movie will apparently be mostly all singing, with very little dialogue (just like the stage musical), according to Tom Hooper.
