To expand on what Yahoo reported, Spielberg wanted to direct For Your Eyes Only, which was originally intended to be the follow-up to The Spy Who Loved Me. But, of course, once Star Wars became the biggest hit of all-time, Moonraker was chosen instead. And in hindsight, Spielberg would have been ideal for Moonraker. That could have actually been a good movie.

Would have loved to see Spielberg got a shot at Bond...I suppose it technically could still happen.

Spielberg is too old and has too many projects in the pipelines. It'll never happen. Christopher Nolan, on the other hand..........

Didn't Nolan say somewhere that doing the Batman Trilogy satisfied his desire to direct a Bond film?

He said it satisfied his desire to do a Howard Hughes biopic. Bond is still on his checklist I believe.

Yeah... hermit Bruce Wayne featured elements from that Howard Hughes movie he never got to make cause Martin Scorsese beat him to it.
