Wow, that is beyond stupid. Not content to merely have The Wolverines be a band of guerillas, this time they have to be the ones who single handedly save the day by stealing the MacGuffin from the "North Koreans." I figured they'd be employing some kind of fantasy weapon into the story in order to make an invasion seem remotely plausible, but this? I expected it to be mentioned just to explain the circumstances, not that it would be the driving force behind the movie.
My already low expectations just went down another notch. Now it doesn't look as though it will even be unintentionally funny enough to make a decent comedy. Looks more like an MST3K party with a rental. |

you act like this is such an affront to the original's legacy... come on man, it's red dawn.

If I had had to make a top 10 list for most ridiculous choices for a remake, I seriously may have put Red Dawn on the list.

Was basically remade not long ago with Tomorrow When the War Began. This looks exactly the same as that film but in the U.S instead of Aus.

If Chris Hemsworth looks a bit young, that's because the film was shot in 2009. It has been shelved for the past 3 years and getting released in a bloated Thanksgiving weekend.

No such situation applies today. The closest modern comparison would be the threat of terrorist attacks, but that's all. Terrorists don't invade and occupy. They just blow people up. Nobody worries about China or the North Koreans attacking the US, so a movie about it happening isn't going to draw the same level of interest. If they wanted to remake it, fine. Just set it during the eighties once more, and turn it into an alternate history movie. |

I have to say, the original was a lot of fun. I laughed pretty hard at the animal noises they made when they needed to alert another member of The Wolverines.

I'm in - looks on par with The Expendables at the very least.

So I went to a press screening and saw this a couple weeks ago. It was decent. Not a going to win any awards, but it wasn't ridiculous. The action sequences are all really well done and the acting doesn't suck for the most part. Their romantic subplots are kind of forced, but the family drama between Josh Peck and Chris Hemsworth is good.
Granted, I have a hard time believing North Korea would invade at all.

Just remember, it was China before they forced MGM to shelf the movie for two years while they change the country, lol.

So true however, the 1st movie was em ok em. Meanwhile there was no need to remake it. Just wasted money if you ask me. If people want to remake a movie make sure that it is a good movie( Classic need to be left alone, can't improve on prefection).
