What I've been wondering that's soooorta on that same topic is whether Quantum will be featured in Skyfall. That would be some sorta connection.

Skyfall is standalone. Like Goldfinger in the Connery films.

From Russia with Love is a direct sequel to Dr. No. And as mentioned above, with the exception of Goldfinger, all the Connery films revolve around a scheme by SPECTRE and Blofeld.

The Man with the Golden Gun doesn't share a story arc with Live and Let Die but it is certainly a direct sequel since JW Pepper makes an appearence and references their previous encounter. The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker share a similar connection.

Then... there's the mess that's On Her Majesty's Secret Service. It's clearly separate from the Connery films, and yet, it makes references to them THREE times. And Tracy's death is mentioned or referenced in Diamonds Are Forever, The Spy Who Loved Me, For Your Eyes Only, License to Kill, and The World Is Not Enough.

I think the difference now is that they're trying to be more organized with the continuity. One can make the argument that Sean Connery, George Lazenby, and Roger Moore played the same Bond. And then the series rebooted itself with Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan. Now, everything is a lot smoother and can easily transition itself from one installment into the next. The standalone Skyfall fits right in with the previous two films.

We had a James Bond forum back in the day. It was quite successful. At least 30% of my posts in those days came from that forum. We discussed the movies, the actors, the Bond girls, the filmmakers, and of course, everything leading up to Casino Royale. Even Mirko would stop-by from time-to-time.

But JBond is right. After Casino Royale, the forum lost its steam. As did most of CS. HOWEVER, I don't see the harm in trying. The Pirates forum can be eliminated. No one posts there. Avatar gets no love either since people here hate the movie. And, Harry Potter is over so no need for it either. Get rid of those and replace it with James Bond.
