He Was Bond Too? a/k/a The George Lazenby Thread

Oh, George! What do we make of him? He starred in ONE Bond film, but that one movie happens to be On Her Majesty's Secret Service. So, you can't really ignore him. He was a model from Australia whose only acting experience was starring in TV commercials. OHMSS is literally his legitimate acting debut. What were they thinking? To be fair, he isn't "bad" in the role. He does - okay - and is excellent in the fight scenes. But he is the weak link in what could have been the best Bond picture.

Cubby didn't like him either. I like how in the DVD they talk about all his childish antics. Lazenby was still in his `20s when he made the movie. He has even admitted that he was far too young and lacked the maturity to handle the iconic role.

Which is interesting because the movie, outside of him, is one of the better Bond films.

Yes l was watching a interview not long ago he said that the bond movies would fold that is why he only made one movie as we can see he was wrong and should have stayed as James bond

Thank God he didn't stay because if he did he would have been THE reason for a complete Bond collapse. A Bond in his 20's isn't the problem, the problem was he was bad in the film. I've heard multiple times this would have been the best Bond ever if Connery had played it, and that's the point. In the Bond franchise the lead actors performance is what matters more than the story/plot even. The only thing I can compare it to would be Doctor Who, where everyone has their own preference of era in the material. Personally I am a New Who guy and a Connery/Craig Bond guy whereas others prefer Classic Who and Roger Moore. It's all about the lead and we dodged a bullet with Lazenby walking away...
